As portable speakers increasingly leave the home for external environments, Braven Audio introduces the BRV range of portable speakers designed to handle the great outdoors with improved durability and playback time.

As innovators in the ‘rugged Bluetooth’ audio category, Braven Audio’s outdoor-loving engineers have created the BRV range of portable speakers which features their loudest unit yet, the 100W BRV-XXL/2, as well as the BRV-XL, BRV-X/2 and BRV-MINI models.

The range features durable, shockproof and waterproof construction to enable the speakers to deliver their audio whilst dealing with wet, muddy or sandy conditions. These latest models were tested in the Rockies and move away from the more boxy design of their predecessors, so they should look equally good in the home with their softened design.

The XXL/2 and XL both feature an integrated carrying handle plus strap, an obviously essential built-in bottle opener, a USB charge out function, IPX5 waterproof rating and speakerphone capability.

Separately, the XXL/2 spreads its 100W of power between four full-range HD drivers, a downward-firing subwoofer plus passive radiators for extra bass extension, all of which help deliver a 360° immersive sound field. There’s adjustable EQ (perhaps useful if you venture into a cave?) and the battery provides 18 hours of playback or mobile device charging.

The XXL/2 also has a feature called Team Mode, which allows it to be paired with up to 100 devices, including secondary speakers, providing the devices are within 100 feet of the central speaker and in line of sight.

The BRV-XL lowers its output to 40W via tweeters, full-range drivers and passive radiators and can be paired with a second XL to create a stereo coupling to better enhance the left and right audio channels. The battery is slightly smaller than the XXL/2 and a fully charged XL will eke out 16 hours of playback/charging.

Gavin Slevin, General Manager, ZAGG International (Braven’s parent company), said, “The goal of technology is to help enhance life’s adventures, and through the power of music, the BRV speaker collection seeks to do just that.”

He continued, “Designed and stress-tested in Utah, where the rugged terrain and jagged peaks of the Rocky Mountains serve as our playground, the new speakers boast unmatched, rugged durability coupled with the premium Bluetooth audio for which BRAVEN is known. We’re excited to provide our fellow outdoor enthusiasts with speakers that can finally keep up with the demands of their bold lifestyle.”

The new BRV models are available now:
The BRV-XXL/2 is available in black priced at £349.99 / €379.99 SRP, the BRV-XL at £199.99 / €229.99 SRP in either black or grey and the BRV-MINI is £34.99.

Soon it won’t be just birdsong and crickets you hear on your camping trip.

The likes of Sonos, with their recently released Move, and JBL’s series of portable and water resistant Bluetooth speakers show how popular the category is becoming but what do AVForums members think of using portable speakers outside for camping, trekking, gardening or BBQs? Ultimate flexibility for your music or losing touch with the audio soundscape provided by nature?
