Fyne Audio adds new standmounts to F1 speaker range

Fynally!

Adding the F1-5 and F1-8 standmount speakers to its flagship F1 speaker series brings the possibility of Fyne’s high end, point source music reproduction to smaller listening environments.

The compact F1-5 and somewhat more substantial F1-8 speakers are also joined by the FS8, a dedicated stand with top plates to fit either model.

Incorporating the acoustic design and bespoke technologies of the Fyne Audio F1-12 into a smaller cabinet democratises luxury build and high-end audio beyond just those with larger rooms, says the company.

Both new models are based around IsoFlare point source drivers which site a magnesium dome compression tweeter in the centre of the mid/bass cone to create a full range driver with a time aligned isotropic wave front. The F1-5 sports a 125mm (5-inch) mid/bass cone with a 19mm tweeter, while the larger F1-8’s driver increases to a 200mm (8-inch) multifibre mid/bass cone with a 25mm tweeter. Both drivers feature a cast aluminium chassis and ferrite HF magnets, and are surrounded by Fyne’s innovative FyneFlute roll surround. Overall, the driver delivers extremely low distortion with high power handling and improved musical cohesion.

The rigid birch ply cabinets of the new F1 duo sit atop a machined aluminium plinth into which Fyne Audio’s BassTrax technology has been integrated. This consists of a Tractrix profile diffuser cone that transfers the plane wave LF energy from the cabinet’s down-firing port into a 360-degree spherical wave front. The benefits of BassTrax are substantial bass depth and weight despite the smaller volume cabinets plus less critical room position and placement.

Both the F1-5 and F1-8 models offer control over the presence band output via a front mounted aluminium knob which allows up to +/-3dB adjustment through the 2.5kHz-5kHz region. This can provide subtle audio shaping through the key vocal spectrum without impacting the overall balance or the reproduction of the original recording, and can be used to counter room issues. Of course, purists can just leave it at 0dB in natural sounding rooms.

At a succinct 321mm tall, the F1-5 offers 87dB/W efficiency, bass output to below 50Hz and substantial 200W peak power handling, while the F1-8, larger at 470mm tall, is 91dB/W efficient to make the most of low power valve amplification and can handle up to 360W peak power, while reaching down to 33Hz in-room.

Both were previewed at the Bristol Hi-Fi Show in February this year but the planned launch was held up as the Coronavirus pandemic caused component supply issues. With production back in full swing, the F1-5 and F1-8 are now shipping and can be used with the specially created FS8 loudspeaker stands that share the same build and machined aluminium plinth of the F1 models, thus adding both aesthetic and acoustic benefits.

Designed, manufactured and hand finished at Fyne Audio’s Glasgow UK facility, the F1-5 compact standmount and F1-8 standmount are available now in traditional piano-gloss real-walnut veneers, priced per pair at £2999.99 and £5,999.99 respectively.

The FS8 stands, in black, cost £999.99 per pair.
