CES 2018 News: Hisense to launch OLED TV in UK

One more manufacturer jumps on the OLED bandwagon

by Steve Withers
Hisense have let slip that they plan to launch their first OLED TV in the UK later this year.
The Chinese giant already has a significant presence in the UK market and announced their new line-up of LED LCD TVs at CES 2018, which includes the U9 with its full array backlight of 1,000 dimmable zones, a peak brightness of 2,500nits and a wider colour gamut that apparently reaches 90% of Rec.2020. However despite concentrating on LCD TVs up until now, they also plan to release a 4K Ultra HD OLED TV in the UK towards the end of this year. Details are thin on the ground at the moment, aside from the fact that the new model will support HDR10 and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG), although we understand that Hisense also plan to support HDR10+ in Europe, so that also seems likely. Hisense have also announced their latest smart platform which includes Freeview Play and integration with Amazon Alexa for full voice control, so it seems sensible to assume that the new OLED TV will also include these features. Hisense's TVs have impressed us in recent reviews thanks to their performance and competitive pricing, so they're certainly a welcome addition to the OLED market.
