Marantz has introduced the brand’s first 13-channel AV pre-amplifier, the AV8805.
For those demanding the ultimate home entertainment experience, the Marantz’s AV8805 is billed as a no-compromise, multichannel AV processor and pre-amplifier, designed for use with high-quality external power amplification or active speakers.

The Marantz AV8805 has Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro 3D decoding. The latter will be added via a future firmware update at no extra charge. There are also a total of eight AK4490 32-bit stereo DACs across all channels.

The AV8805 also offers what sounds like industrial levels of build quality with a highly rigid base chassis and the oversized toroidal transformer feeding the big main capacitors is set on an extra 5mm aluminium pedestal for extra stability. All the electronics are also supported by the copper plating on the main chassis, which significantly improves Signal to Noise behaviour, says Marantz. In total 17 single board HDAM modules are used to achieve channel separation for reference-setting audio performance. Finally, everything is well covered by a heavy top lid constructed out of three pieces.

Marantz is looking at the custom integrator market and the AV8805 features a balanced XLR stereo input, as well as assignable 15.2 balanced XLR outputs, which includes two subwoofer outputs, front height/width outputs and overhead channels. 15.2 RCA pre-outs provide additional compatibility with multiple power amplifier types or active speakers.

The AV8805 further enhances audio quality by handling all signals via the Marantz HDAM modules in Current Feedback topology, before passing to the XLR or RCA outputs and separate power amp. There’s also a Phono MM as well, for vinyl lovers and wireless connectivity provided by both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Streaming capabilities are available with partners such as, Spotify, TuneIn Internet radio, Amazon Prime Music, JUKE, Soundcloud, TIDAL, Napster, Deezer, and Apple Airplay.

With a future firmware update, the AV8805 will additionally be equipped with Amazon’s Alexa Smart Home Skill for Entertainment Devices. The Marantz AV8805 also features a video section with 4K HDCP 2.2 specifications on all eight HDMI inputs. It also comes with enhanced audio return channel (eARC) support (via a firmware update) for the most advanced audio formats via single HDMI connection between the device and compatible TVs.

For remote control compatibility with other components in your home theatre system, the AV8805 features an IR (infrared) remote control input and output on the rear panel, along with dual 12V trigger outputs. For direct connection to external home automation and control equipment, the AV8805 features an RS-232C serial port with Crestron Connected certification for quick and easy integration with Crestron home automation equipment. IP control is featured too. Lastly, Marantz’s AV8805 also comes with Audyssey MultEQ XT32, LFC, Sub EQ HT, Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ to deliver the ultimate equalisation for your home theatre space.

The AV8805 (€ 3,999/ £3,599) will be available in March 2018
