Marantz unveils PM7000N streaming amplifier
MSRP: £999.00

With an eye on what the modern music fan needs from their audio setup, Marantz has released the PM7000N - the company’s first fully integrated Hi-Fi stereo amplifier with Hi-Res music streaming capabilities.

Teaming with features for music fans who want instant access to their song libraries and streaming services, the PM7000N has HEOS built-in so listeners can stream Amazon HD, Spotify Free and Premium, TIDAL, Deezer and other similar services around the home. By linking the PM7000N with other HEOS enabled speakers and audio devices, the same content can be streamed to every speaker or each speaker can receive an individual stream.

Hi-Res audio in the form of ALAC, FLAC and WAV lossless files up to 24-bit/192-kHz is supported, along with DSD 2.8MHz and 5.6MHz tracks supported by a high performance audio DAC AK4490.

Additionally, Bluetooth and AirPlay 2 supports streaming from smart phones, tablets and other compatible devices of both the Android and Apple variety and Wi-Fi with 2.4GHz/5GHz dual band supports improved network stability even when multiple users are all vying for bandwidth.

Put together using high grade audio components to deliver improved sound quality, the PM7000N incorporates well established Marantz technologies such as the company’s proprietary Current Feedback amplification and Hyper-Dynamic Amplifier Modules (HDAM-SA3). This provides the foundation for the extended dynamic range and low distortion required by Hi-Res digital music.

The integrated amplifier features a shielded toroidal transformer for delivering clean power without distortion, plus a high-speed instantaneous-current power supply which provides 2x 60W into 8 ohms or 2 x 80W into 4 ohms. Also in play is a new preamplifier section that leverages the latest electronic volume control to achieve distinct channel separation and improved signal-to-noise ratio.

To help isolate the analogue circuit from digital interference, the digital circuitry is contained within a shielded case to minimise any noise radiation from leaking out. In addition, Pure Mode provides the option of disabling the USB-A, Network, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth circuits, either individually or simultaneously, to turn the PM7000N into a pure analogue amplifier in order to maintain the purity of the signal when listening to music from analogue sources.

Vinyl fans wanting to connect their turntable to the PM7000N will be able to do so using the phono input which features a newly designed FET (field-effect transistor) input stage which improves the signal purity and lowers distortion by removing the need for AC coupling capacitors. The result is better clarity for listeners when they play their record collections.

The hardware features don’t stop there, and connectivity includes four analogue inputs and one analogue out. There’s also a single coaxial and two optical digital inputs for connecting a TV or cable/satellite set-top-box and a Blu-ray or DVD player so that movie and TV show soundtracks can be enjoyed via the PM7000N. The amplifier automatically wakes upon detecting an audio signal at one of the digital inputs and the TV remote can be used to control its volume, power status and input selection.

Additionally, there’s a USB-A input for playing Hi-Res music files from a computer and the subwoofer output features an adjustable low-pass crossover to tailor bass response to each unique listening environment. Also on the rear are premium Marantz SPKT-1+ speaker terminals made of dense brass with a thick nickel plating to provide the best possible contact with speaker cables.

Finally, the PM7000N works with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri voice agents for easy vocal control.

Emmanuel Millot, Senior Director Brand Management at Marantz, commented, “There is an increasing demand from enthusiasts and audiophiles who desire easy access to their favourite music streaming services, particularly high-resolution content from providers such as Amazon Music HD and Tidal.” He added, “The PM7000N offers the best of both worlds by maintaining Marantz’s rich audiophile legacy of Hi-Fi 2-channel integrated amplifiers while embracing market demand for access to streaming.”

The Marantz PM7000N (MSRP: £999, €1,199, $999) will be available November 15th at authorized Marantz retailers.

With plenty of streaming features and a high performance integrated amplifier, will the Marantz PM7000N make it onto your wish list? Let us know in the discussion thread.
