Orbitsound debuts updated ONE P70W V2 wireless speaker

Trickle down tech treat for listeners

by Andy Bassett

British audio innovator, Orbitsound, has updated its ONE P70W wireless speaker to V2 and it now features the same advanced Transconductance Amplification found in the company's flagship Air D1 speaker but without the commensurate flagship price of £12K.

The ONE P70W V2 will come in at a much less eye-watering £399 and in keeping the same arresting looks of its first iteration, passes as both a Hi-Fi component and a stylish soundbar. Looks aside though, most of the improvements have taken place under the hood.

Along with the aforementioned transconductance technology, the ONE P70W V2 also features the company’s bespoke Airsound system. While the Transconductance Amplification monitors the speaker’s performance and removes any distortion in the audio system by dynamically adjusting the amplifier’s output, Airsound ensures that everyone in the room hears the same sound no matter where they sit. It does this by making sure that the sound emanating from the one-box design of the ONE P70W V2 is as spatially wide as possible, effectively widening the audio ‘sweetspot’ to encompass the entire listening environment through clever use of the side-firing 2-inch MK4 speakers to deliver ‘non-central’ audio information.

Along with these side-firing drivers, the unit features further front- and upwards-firing drivers as well as a 5.25-inch woofer. This multiple driver orientation ensures that no matter where the ONE P70W V2 is placed or mounted, the audio output is unaffected.

Connections to the speaker unit are straight-forward courtesy of both physical ports in the form of an optical input for connecting your TV, along with wireless protocols in the form of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support. There’s a 3.5mm AUX input too for connecting portable music players. Downloading Orbitsound’s app (Android and iOS) enables access to Spotify Connect, Apple Music and TuneIn Radio. The ONE P70W V2 is also geared towards multi-room audio and can connect with other compatible Orbitsound speaker units.

The Orbitsound ONE P70W V2 comes in black or bamboo and is available at John Lewis in the UK for £399.
