Philips recently relaunched its premium Fidelio range of audio products and it’s not just limited to headphones as two new high performance soundbars join the brand - the B95 and B97.
The Fidelio brand is designed to signify the best balance between outstanding audio performance and premium build quality in order to provide the user with an improved experience.
Joining the recently launched Fidelio X3 headphones are two new IMAX Enhanced Certified soundbars with wireless subwoofers which aim to provide the highest quality, immersive, 3D cinema sound performance available, thanks to compatibility with both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound formats.
Philips Fidelio B97 Soundbar
The Philips Fidelio B97 is a slim, 7.1.2 multi-channel configuration sound bar featuring both dedicated Dolby Atmos Elevation drivers and Philips Fidelio’s Surround-on-demand technology.
The Surround-on-demand feature enables the B97 to use two detachable wireless speakers that function as part of the left and right channels when connected to the main bar for a wider front soundstage or as dedicated left and right surround channels when separated from the bar and placed elsewhere in the room to increase immersiveness.
A total of 17 drivers deliver the audio experience and this includes eight ported 1-inch x 3.5-inch bass/mid 'race-track' drivers. Each of the Surround-on-demand detachable speakers has one racetrack driver which works with a further pair of drivers for either the left and right channels when connected to the main bar. A further two drivers work as part of a dedicated centre channel.
There are also six 19mm soft dome tweeters, two forward firing plus one side firing and mounted in each of the detachable speakers. Two more angled, side-firing tweeters are hidden in the main body and only become active when the detachable speakers are removed. And for a totally immersive sound, the B97 also features angled, up-firing 2.5-inch Dolby Atmos Elevation units.
This is all rounded off with an 8-inch driver housed in the wireless subwoofer which uses 240W of power to deliver low end frequencies down to 35Hz. There’s a remaining 500W available to drive the main system.
Philips Fidelio B95 Soundbar
A smaller sibling to the 7.1.2 multi-channel B97, the Fidelio B95 drops the Surround-on-demand feature and delivers its surround sound experience via a 5.1.2 format instead.
The system divides the drivers into dedicated left, right and centre channels to ensure the widest, immersive sound stage with true voice clarity. A total of 450W is split across five 19mm soft dome channels - three across the front and two angled side firing - plus three pairs of ported 1-inch x 3.5-inch mid/bass ‘racetrack’ drivers and two angled up-firing Dolby Atmos Elevation units.
The B95 features a total of 14 drivers with the final one being the 8-inch driver in the subwoofer, which matches the B97 in terms of power and low end frequency range.
Both the B95 and B97 feature twin HDMI 2.1 connectors with both eARC and 4K pass through and there’s wireless connectivity via both Bluetooth music and Apple AirPlay, plus the soundbars are also part of the Philips Wireless Home system offering easy wireless multi-room connectivity via DTS Play-Fi technology.
Installation and operation of both soundbars is simple and intuitive thanks to the Philips Sound app and compatibility with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
