Philips TV and Bowers & Wilkins extend partnership

New OLED+ TV promised for second half of 2020

Good news for TV fans who want OLED image quality and audiophile sound for their viewing, Philips and Bowers & Wilkins have extended their successful and exclusive partnership.

Originally announced in June 2018, TP Vision (who are responsible for developing, manufacturing and marketing Philips branded TV sets in many global markets) and Bowers and Wilkins, the renowned British speaker manufacturer, put in place an approach to the premium TV market that saw the OLED+ 934 and 984 top end OLED TVs come complete with their own high quality sound systems.

The three Bowers and Wilkins supported OLED+ TVs released so far (the trio is completed by the OLED+903) have between them won 95 awards throughout Europe over the last 18 months including AVForums’ very own Editor’s Choice Award for both Best Premium OLED TV of 2019 and Best TV Sound of 2019.

2020 has now seen the addition of Bowers & Wilkins speakers to Philips’ 4K LED TVs too, with both the UHD 9235 and 9435 ranges now sporting sound systems from B&W, meaning access to audiophile quality sound is no longer restricted to just to high end OLED TVs.

TP Vision are also teasing further LCDs at smaller screen sizes and the launch of a new OLED+ model in the second half of the year, which will no doubt be announced at the company’s recently announced online event which will substitute for its annual appearance at IFA this year.

The continued agreement between TP Vision and Bowers & Wilkins aims to ensure the best possible TV picture and sound experience in Philips' premium Ambilight TVs and benefits from both brands' tradition for developing all their own technologies in-house. Both companies have European based engineering facilities and are able to ensure total quality control over every stage of product development and production.

Kostas Vouzas , CEO for TP Vision Europe said, “I genuinely believe we changed the premium TV market when we revealed the first products from our partnership with Bowers & Wilkins.” He continued, “This is a ground-breaking partnership of two outright leaders in their field and I am confident we will continue to delight our consumers with outstanding products. I’m delighted that our partnership will continue into the future.”

Geoff Edwards, CEO for Bowers & Wilkins said: “Our partnership with TP Vision is one of equals and is a perfect example of how we can combine our audio skills with those of another outstanding brand to redefine the listening expectations of premium audio-visual products in the marketplace.”
