Polk launches MagniFi 2 soundbar

Polk has expanded its MagniFi soundbar range with the addition of the MagniFi 2, which packs in enough surround sound technology to create a cinematic soundstage at home.

The MagniFi 2 soundbar costs  £499 and is designed to make multichannel audio accessible at a reasonable price point by including a 3D Audio Mode and Polk’s patented Stereo Dimensional Array (SDA) technology alongside its performance-tuned driver array.

Featuring four 1-inch by 3-inch full-range drivers and two 0.75-inch tweeters, the MagniFi 2 comes with an 8-inch ported subwoofer for extra wallop at the low end.

Meanwhile, the new 3D Audio Mode benefits the patented SDA surround technology to create an even more expansive soundstage by adding virtual height channels, bringing the kind of convincing audio immersion that movie lovers want.

At just over two inches tall, the soundbar is slim enough to sit discreetly under most television models without blocking the remote sensor or impeding the image.

Connection to TVs and other devices is made easy by the provision of three 4K HDMI 2.0 (HDCP2.2) inputs to ensure 4K HDR content looks great and there's one ARC compatible HDMI output along with a digital optical input for audio should your TV model not be equipped with an HDMI output.

For wireless connections, there’s Bluetooth built-in so audio on a smartphone or tablet can be played, and Chromecast for audio means users can stream content from Amazon Music HD, Apple Music, Roon, Qobuz, Spotify, Tidal and many more just by asking any Google Assistant-enabled speaker. Moreover, simple voice commands can also change volume and find information about what you’re listening to.

Commands can also be sent to the MagniFi 2 by IR based TV remote controls from Samsung, LG, Vizio, TCL, and Sony. The soundbar can use IR Learn to work with new remotes if the codes are not already included. In addition, remotes from most CEC enabled TVs can be used to control the soundbar too.

The MagniFi 2 possesses several preset EQ settings for Movies, Music and Sports, which optimise the soundbar and subwoofer levels to ensure the clearest dialogue, biggest surround sound and deepest bass for the content you are listening to. In addition, the MagniFi 2 features Voice Adjust Technology, which allows users to customise voice levels for crystal-clear dialogue and intelligibility. Finally, Night Mode lowers the bass and increases dialogue on the soundbar without touching the master volume, so family or housemates are not disturbed.

Michael McCole, senior product marketing manager for sound bars at Polk Audio, commented, "Many soundbars improve TV sound dramatically, but few offer a compelling immersive surround sound experience. Using tools like Polk Audio’s patented SDA technology, 3D Audio Mode for virtual height and Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, the MagniFi 2 soundbar is a significant step closer to a multi-channel listening experience at a much more attainable price.

The MagniFi 2 joins the other soundbars in the range including the MagniFi MAX, MAX SR and MagniFi Mini which we reviewed here.

The MagniFi 2 retails for £499 ($499, €499) and is currently available from authourised dealers.
