Samsung announces 55-inch 8K QLED TV

8K for a normal sized living room

Samsung is fully behind 8K and is determined that their 8K QLED TVs should be available in enough screen sizes so that there is a version to suit most consumers.
To that end, the South Korean TV manufacturer has used its presentation at IFA 2019 to announce the availability of a 55-inch 8K QLED.

Ever since the company unveiled its first commercially available 8K TVs in the form of the Q900R at last year’s IFA, the huge screen sizes (up to 98-inches) and, of course, astronomical prices have screamed ‘exclusive luxury tech’. Even the smallest screen size at 65-inches is something most homes outside the US would struggle to accommodate, as well as most wallets.

So, it’s good news for TV fans who may already be thinking about their next upgrade that a 55-inch 8K model now brings the option of moving to 8K at least into the realms of possibility for a greater number of purchasers.

After pouring time and resources into developing their 8K TVs Samsung will want them to go mainstream in order to see a successful return on their investment. This means promoting acceptable quality and price to the public. Now that the attention-grabbing, cost-prohibitive 8K screens have done their job and got 8K into the TV conversation, it looks like it’s time to move onto the next phase and get the consumer interested.

Could a 55-inch 8K TV from Samsung be the product to do that?
