Toshiba’s 2019 4K UHD line up of TVs will be available from Monday 29th July. Aiming to balance quality technical specifications with value for money, the L7 and L5 range of models will sport features including Alexa integration, HDR10 and Dolby Vision High Dynamic Range plus Sound by Onkyo across the entire model spectrum.
Available in a range of screen sizes from 43-inches up to 65-inches at the largest end, the models will sport prices likely to suit TV buyers looking for more affordable options.

The premium facing UL7A and TL7A series both come in 49 and 55-inch screen sizes and share prices at £449 for the 49-inch and £549 for the 55-inch. The flagship UL7A models offer an enhanced viewing experience with additional features including Wide Colour Gamut support and upgraded 42W speakers/subwoofers designed by leading audio brand Onkyo. The TL7As feature a front facing speaker arrangement while the UL7As have a downward firing setup.

The UL7A and TL7A both feature a Gaming Mode set up to support 4K HDR games and the overall set design is slim and stylish with an aluminium plate stand.

Toshiba’s ‘core’ range is called L5 and is split between the UL5A models, which come in at 43, 49 and 55-inches, and the VL5A options at 43, 50, 55 and 65-inches. Again, the prices match at each comparable screen size at £349, £399 and £479 respectively except for the sole 65-inch VL5A option which is £699.

The VL5A models drop the aluminium plate stand of the UL5A for an aluminium ring stand instead.

Additionally, the UL5A models available via Argos come with Toshiba Connect, which includes a far field microphone for use with the integrated Alexa digital voice assistant. This adds £20 to the cost of the TV set and for those who would prefer one of the other models which does not come with Toshiba Connect, there’s no need to worry as the microphone will be made available separately later in the autumn, though there’s no confirmed price yet.

These ‘core’ models lack the Wide Colour Gamut feature of the premium ranges but still share the Dolby Vision and HDR10 HDR functionality of the higher specced UL7A and TL7A ranges.

In addition, all the 2019 Toshiba Smart TVs are powered by the TRU Picture Engine chipset which uses three picture processing technologies to create an optimal image. These include TRU Micro Dimming which examines all the regions of the image to improve contrast, TRU Flow which analyses fast paced action scenes to minimise judder effects and maintain smooth motion, whilst TRU Resolution upscales a wide variety of non-4K content, to deliver an image that feels more immersive.

The inclusion of Alexa compatibility means that any Alexa-enabled device can be used to perform simple voice commands for the TV but a more integrated experience becomes available across all of Toshiba’s 2019 TVs once the Toshiba Connect microphone has been plugged into one of the TV’s USB ports and Amazon has been signed into.

Here, viewers can issue commands to control the TV’s power status, adjust the volume, change channels, along with options to search for tracks in Amazon Music, check the news and weather, set up calendar reminders and control other Alexa supported smart devices around the home.

For viewers who want a step up in their audio experience, Toshiba is also announcing their Bluetooth enabled TY-SBX210 and TY-WSB600 soundbars, to enhance the audio from the TV or any device connected to it. Designed for TVs of 32-inches and above, they can stream audio from applications such as Spotify and Deezer or from a home networked library residing on an iOS, Windows or Android device.

Bart Kuijten, Toshiba European Sales and Marketing Director, commented, “With our 2019 series, we’re making innovative TV technology accessible to all.” He went on to add, “Whilst we’re continuing to build on audio visual standards with a whole host of partner technologies and new accessories, we’re also thinking outside the box, tapping into the as-yet unfulfilled potential of TV to offer next-level digital voice assistance with Alexa.”
