As 4K starts to become a feature in more and more homes as a means of enjoying a wide range of entertainment platforms, Vivitek launches its 4K Home Entertainment Projector, the HK2200.Projectors, once seen purely as a cinephile’s way to get their large screen movie experience tucked away in a darkened AV cavern, are now starting to be seen as a way for families to also get in on large screen, UHD entertainment, whether it be films, TV, music videos, sports or games.
Recognising this, Vivitek has made their latest affordable 4k UHD HK2200 projector more suited to family room viewing.
Its compact size and neutral white finish mean it will fit unobtrusively into most living room environments in order to deliver its 220cm wide, 4K image. With a 100-inch diagonal image size, the viewing area far exceeds that available from a similarly priced 4K TV.
Using the latest 4K-UHD DMD chipset technology from Texas Instrument, a full 8.3 million pixels are displayed on the screen and a Rec.709 colour gamut space and perfect colour reproduction means true-to-life colour accuracy. Colours also benefit from Colour Enhancer and skin tone optimiser functions which fine-tune the saturation of colours and adjust hue only for skin tones so they are portrayed in the most accurate shades. Finally, the tool kit includes a full set of colour management and ISF-ready calibration options.
Image detail and sharpness are enhanced by the ViviPeaking function, while an HDR function provides improved picture clarity. For content with fast motion such as sports, the ViviMotion frame interpolation function reduces motion judder by increasing the intermediate frames in between originals, in order to create a smooth film viewing experience.
The HK2200 has plenty of both wireless and physical connectivity options in order to allow interaction with multiple devices at home, like Blu-ray players, game consoles or PCs. These connections range from twin HDMI 2.0 inputs to a USB input which enables image and video files from a USB flash drive to play directly in the inbuilt multimedia viewer. A wireless mirroring function allows casting of compatible devices’ screens to the projector so that photos on a smartphone can be enjoyed by everyone without having to crowd around a handheld device. The HK2200 is Chromecast ready and can power external wireless devices from the projector’s USB port. Additionally, there's a 12v trigger function for external device control, such as activating a screen or a sound system when turning the projector on.
Holger Graeff, General Manager, Vivitek EMEA, commented, “The HK2200 is the right projector for tapping into today’s booming 4K trend. Audiences increasingly expect 4K content, and we’re offering them the very best in 4K screen size and a viewing experience that 4K TVs can’t beat.”
He further added, “Yet all of this viewing excellence comes in a compact and lightweight form that’s suitable for any living room, while delivering a spectacular image that enables 4K content to shine. Factor in its value for money, and the HK2200 presents a compelling case to film, music video, games and sports fans.”
The HK2200 will be available from mid-November with an SRP of £1,399.
