Yamaha has announced a new addition to its MusicCast family that allows almost any device to become part its multi-room audio system, called the WXAD-10.
The WXAD-10 is an adapter that you connect to any audio product you already own and it's known in-house at Yamaha as the ‘ADD’. The ‘Add’ features as ceramic-like design and should be small enough to be placed out of sight and is powered by a single USB cable for easy connectivity.
Whether it be a soundbar, a set of HiFi components, a home theatre, a CD system or pretty much any audio product you may already have the WXAD-10 can connect via the RCA jack on the back to send a line level signal, or use the 3.5mm output and control the volume directly via the MusicCast app.
MusicCast brings Bluetooth connectivity, Airplay, a wide range of streaming services including Spotify, TIDAL and Deezer as well as app control and net radio. The app is compatible with Android and Apple devices and the WXAD-10 joins over 50 different MusicCast compatible products already available.
The WXAD-10 is compatible with hi-res audio up to 192/24 FLAC, WAV and AIFF with support for 92/24 ALAC as well. Inside is originally designed circuitry by Yamaha, which aims to minimise and optimise the signal path utilising high quality parts and technologies. The WXAD-10 uses a Burr-Brown DAC, alongside original PML condensers, the likes of which you’ll find in Yamaha’s AV receivers.
The network module is also custom built and designed to achieve low jitter and a high signal to noise ratio in combination with the custom circuitry.
The WXAD-10 is available from May 2017 and the SRP hasn't been announced yet but will be confirmed soon.
Update: SRP is £149.95
