2015 Panasonic CX802 (TX-xxCX802B) Owners Thread Part 2

I had a cx802 until recently and own the gx800, predecessor to the hx800 and very similar to gx800 according to reviews. The cx802 has a better basic picture due to full array backlighting for most content but I would say HDR content looks better on the gx800. Personally, I wouldn't swap unless you intend to watch a lot of 4k dolby vision or hdr 10+ content.

Thank you, that was a very helpful reply. Is the 50cx802 full array? as that is what i have.

I mainly want a newer tv for better HDR support mainly for HLG on sky. I watch 4k blu ray, amazon, netflix so i watch quite a lot of HDR.

Ah, good point! The 50" doesn't have FALD (I had 55" that did). In that case, I would be tempted to upgrade.

The Hx800 & samsung Q80T is the 2 tvs i'm interested in. I'm in no rush as i will wait for black friday sales & give myself time to decide which to buy.

My sky box is HLG compatable as its V2 & sky only plays in 4k SDR. BBC iplayer is converted from HLG to HDR through my panasonic UB820 player.

Do you guys think the Hx800 would be a worthwhile upgrade from the CX802? The Hx904 is IPS panel so i'm not interested in that. I am not interested in OLED for burn in reasons. The Samsung full array set Q80T looks decent as well.

I went from a CX802B to a Samsung 2016 Q9FN there top end model at the time 480 dimming zones compared to the 55 inch Panasonics CX802Bs 32 zones or so.

I learned a lesson, dimming zones or blacks arent everything by far. Samsung TV's can not compete against Panasonic in image processing image accuracy and motion.

I think you will regret a Samsung TV. Look at Sony VA panel 100hz panel 4K LED TV's they have less dimming zones like the CX802 than Samsung QLEDS but their image quality and the rest is ahead of the CX802 now due to improvements Sony have made. Samsung would be giving you a step back for image quality.

My advice is forget Samsung if you love how Panasonic CX802's look cause Samsung TV's look nothing like them they produce a differant image and motion is far behind Panasonic too.

Sony are keeping up with Panasonic and are now ahead of Panasonic for non OLEDS like you want so if going from Panasonic i would look at Sony. They are still making VA panels upto 100hz with Sony's vastly better like Panasonics image processing and motion control.

Thanks very helpful reply. Sony sounds like the best choice. What would you personally choose a panasonic HX800 or a sony LED TV.

something like this
Sony 55XH9505

I would also ask on the Sony TV forum about the best current 4K VA panels. I should also point this out Sony TV's have gone with Android OS which can be slower or "laggy" compared to some other OS's for TV's. It is not terrible or anything tho and to me it is image quality with a TV is what counts and Sony are beating Panasonic for non OLEDS now.

I am not worried about the smart side of things as i use an amazon fire stick for that. Thanks for you're help.

I reckon you would def be fine with a Sony TV then.
cheaper 100hz VA 10bit panel Sony

You should check on the Sony forum on here which is the best to get they have quite a few out with similar specs and differant prices. I am 99.99% sure you will prefere the image quality and motion of a Sony than any Samsung out.

That Sony tv looks good & will come down on price by black friday but i will search the sony forums & thanks again.

Finally got my 55" picked up by the repairers last week. Since my last update in March it had gotten worse - 13 backlight flares at the last count. They just called to say that it won't be repaired. Just got to wait for the offer from JL&P now. Actually picked up a TX-55GX950B OLED (awesome) from Costco last week for £950, so will be looking to take a cash offer. All being well, will end up with a TV upgrade and a few quid in my pocket...
Si.

Hiya chaps

it’s not really an issue, but wondering why it keeps doing this!!

my 55” CX802 has 1 Hdmi cable going from Hdmi2 (ARC) into my Denon AVR Receiver, then everything plugs into that obviously

I’m setting up my Amazon Fire TV Cube, you can teach it to turn ya telly on and receiver with ya voice etc

Everytime it gets to the stage where it learns how to turn your TV on and off (which it does fine) as soon as it switches the telly back on, the TV always always goes back on to HDMI1 and not 2!
I have to manually press AV to choose Hdmi2
Why is this?

I’ve played with some HDMi settings on the telly, but can’t figure out why it always goes to Hdmi 1 every time.... any ideas? I just want it to always go to Hdmi 2 and ignore any other Hdmi socket, I never use them 🤦‍♂️🤣

Since my CX802 is 5 years old, what is the upgrade to this model this year? Very happy with Panasonic.... although I did buy a Great 55” Sony KD-55XF9005 for the bedroom 2 weeks ago for an astonishing £649! 👍🏻😃

I’ve recently replaced mine with a 65” GZ OLED. I paid less than I did for my 55” 802 5 years ago and it is a big upgrade in PQ, especially in HDR.

Hi guys

Bought my Amazon Fire TV Cube in July this year, it’s the latest generation one, fully updated firmware etc

Cube is connected to my 2015 Panasonic TX-55CX802 TV, I’ve only just realised I’ve had a few incorrect settings set on my TV cube... have a look at the images...

I’ve Changed the cube settings in Display section to these below

Video Resolution to (Automatic up to 4K resolution)
Match Original Frame Rate to ON
Colour Depth to 10bits
Colour Format to Automatic
Dynamic Range to Adaptive

(I take it the above is now correct) ??🤔

My Panny TV is apparent 10bit?

But then looking at the specs of my Sony in bedroom and my Panasonic in living room, it seems the Panny is indeed 10bit but not really? It says on the pic 8bits + FRC? What’s that mean?😳

I’ve now changed the Panny to 10 bit and since then the picture is oversaturated, look at the images... red and pink are odd looking!
I’ve changed it back to 8bit and all is good, what do you think is the issue when I turn it to 10bit on the fire cube ?

Compare the 2 Amazon Home Screens

Very odd!

Update ! Changing it to 8bit or 10bit makes NO difference, it’s when you change from ALWAYS HDR to ADAPTIVE that causes the issue, it’s not right to leave it on always HDR, but clearly an issue with Amazon itself ☹️🤬

Anything special to look out for or to set up when plugging the new Xbox into a 55” ?
Thanks

Anyone still here?

Got my PS5 pre-ordered so looking to upgrade my YSP-1600 sound bar to an Atmos soundbar. Am I right in thinking that the 802b will pass Atmos from the PS5 through HDMI2 (ARC) to a soundbar. Sources on PS5 will be Netflix/Amazon Prime as well as games.

I was going to pull the trigger on a LG CX but ideally I want a 50” as a 55” is too big and I don’t see the point of going from a 50” to a 48” so the 802b will remain sitting proud in the living room for now.

Cheers.

Not to sure of the detail but I remember seeing something about it being an 8 bit panel with added processing (FRC?) to try and give the effect of a 10 bit. I think it’s in Part 1 of the owners thread as it was a long time ago.

Yes that is exactly the case but it doesn't mean it is not good at displaying 10bit colour. It does a better job than high end 2016-2017 Samsung QLEDS that have 10bit screens for coping with showing higher number of colour tones.
