Is there a current go to tv at this price range. Mainly for movies sports and some gaming so ideally 120hz. (I guess an all rounder)

I’m currently lost in the minefield of what’s out there

Nothing that I know of at your budget unfortunately. Maybe look at a 65".
 
120hz means you'd be looking at mid range TVs all of which will be over budget, even at the best time of year to purchase...and right now is a bad time to buy a TV given the 2020 stock is still currently overpriced having just been released.
