Another joke thread- There were these two..

to the guy who invented zero

thanks for nothing..

^ 1,500 years? surely you mean 15 years as you literally just said there were no zero's.

Or do you have your facts wrong and are contradicting yourself!

I demand a recount ;)

No No No NO....!

Sorry, I mean: N N N N....!

On the other hand perhaps I'm getting Zero's and Ow's mixed up.

Perhaps the romans (or should that be rmans) used a Ow letter as they'd not discovered the Zero yet?

The Seven Dwarves have been told that from Monday they can meet in groups of six. One of them isn't Happy.

The idea of zero being invented sounds daft but did you know that the Roman civilisation lasted 1,500 years without the need for a zero in their numbering system.

Cheers,

Nigel

I for one. Don’t believe it.

Why not? I'm not referring to the '0s' in 10, 1000, besides the Romans used X and M for those anyway.

I'm saying that they did not have a representation for the number ZERO.

So in Arabic numbers

50 + 20 - 70 = 0

But in Roman numerals

L + XX - LXX = ???? (they didn't have the concept of the number ZERO nor feel the need for one).

I sure they had words for 'nothing' but they didn't have anything in their number system.

So they never encountered the old chestnuts like "what is zero divided by zero" or "what is zero to the power of zero"

Cheers,

Nigel
