Away Season 1 (Netflix) TV Show Review & Comments

Good review, thx. Started watching it last night and have the same Emma vibe, but whilst i agree it does detract a little from the show i would give it an even 7.

thanks for the review

i am 5 episodes in and enjoying it - a solid 7 for me so far - watching the rest for sure

I found myself skipping forward here and there.....score of 6 is appropriate

Thanks for the Review, Kumari. Will have to wait until (if) it appears on Prime, but at the moment not sounding very appealing, I must say!

A bit slow at times, but we are sticking with it. 6 is a fair score.

If you would like to see the quality of acting and attention to continuity please check out episode 2 at timestamp 17 minutes 30 seconds. Watch the foot....

"Away 2 - you won't believe how far!"
Or, the direction that language is going (Cough! Idiocracy cough!)...
"Awayer"
or Nearer?

Just finished it.
My review :

Annoying teen (common these days)
Overbearing husband
Best friend thats always there
Hillary is wasted in this ( too much self pity)
Looks like anyone can walk into space control.

It's more of rom com than a space odessey.

Was expecting so much more but bit of let down... 5/10..

Oh yeah, one more thing. They have brilliant text and video comms always in it..
I cant get 4G here on earth :)

I'm about 7 episodes in and wondering if the writers know anything at all about space travel.

How on earth does a mission specialist get picked for a 3 year mission having never spent anytime in space...

Just far too many stupid things to ignore.

At best a 4. Already deleted from my watch list.

Another emotional democracy.
Written for adolescents.
If astronauts, team players etc. thought this way, no one would ever go or do anything.
More women can do the same job as men; as long as they can have emotional breakdowns, need males for physical and some technical input but take the credit. They get apologised to and told how strong they are along the way continually and how needed and precious they are. Oh and the sacrifice that no one else makes like they do.
The biggest joke from the outset, that she only got the job as now the best because her husband couldn't make it. I guess that flew over S****'s head when she chose this strong woman role.
Yet another US outing where white male Brit's aren't allowed.
China gets a seat in this table?!
The space walk in episode 2 is hilarious. She only has secure clip mounts every two feet apart? How will she manage...oh wait, the Russian man will save her.
This is plain patronising to both men and women.

Just finished, I had to.

It was terrible, I just don't understand how on earth they can get so much wrong.

Even drilling a flipping hole, and 'only' having a margin of error of 1 inch. Clearly not one of the writers has ever used a drill with a depth stop...

3.5 maybe 4 out of 10

Thanks for the review and feedback I can stay far Away from this.

Going to Mars with a second rate water recycle machine ? That is very difficult to repair, even if you have a backup, but then the blind Russian grandfather is the first to have a go at it.
Well if you had a difficult day and you are in need of some eye candy... the images are very pleasing to the eye. Talking about eyes, the whole crew must have infected eyes after the shoot, because abundant crying seems to come easy when you are weightless.

I particularly liked the shot of Emma's tears sitting in her eyes, which happens in zero g. Unfortunately she was in the spun up section of the ship that had gravity...

So many fails.

Finished it last night. 8/10. Not too bad but with a couple of very weak points in the plot. Not sure if the ending leaves the door open for S2.

it’s ok but a bit soft, I really liked ‘The First’ and this feels like a pg version of that. I’d rather they had spent a couple episodes on mars but I suppose that’s being saved for season 2.

Amazing how little about the actual trip to Mars is in a "trip to Mars" series - but then the title is Away which suggests something entirely different.

First, I'm not even going to get into the technical errors which are annoying at least.

Tons of FF (fast forwarding) necessary to not fall asleep or quit watching altogether.

Common Problem Nowadays: (Twilight Effect, Soap Opera, Narcissism, ???) The cop shows are called "procedurals." There must be a name now for shows that after every plot event, we do asides to all the characters that pair off and discuss their feelings. It is so formulaic, it's unbearable - like when you see a "mile away" that someone is going to burst out in song. These "asides" (and songs obviously) cause FFing that so many people now are doing. Can you imagine what it would be like to have to watch this OTA and not FF?

Maybe the name for these "feelings scenes" is Soap Opera??? (Really need to establish this term so it doesn't have to be explained each time one of these treatments occurs.)

OVERALL RATING: 6 - It's SyFi and a trip to Mars so it has to be watched unfortunately. If it was not SyFi or Trip to Mars, I'd give it a 2.
