Boris Johnson: Resigns….

I miss his perspective on the welfare system, even though it was extremely stressful for him.

It's designed to make you give up and feel like your a fraud. I'll probably be going through a PIP battle again soon. If not for Mind fighting my corner I honestly don't know what I would have done. The lady from Mind escorted me out of my appeal hearing as the DWP representative turned to threats as I think he saw he was losing yet another appeal.

The PIP experience set me back a long way with my mental health. I get extremely frustrated with people who shrug their shoulders or ask dumb questions about mental health in general. I was lucky with my PIP appeal, I had an 8 month wait. While I know somebody who was waiting almost 2 years for an appeal due to the backlog of appeals.

I'm happy to be assessed under a system that looks at the medical evidence with independent experts deciding using their own judgement and not a predefined computer based script. The current system is designed to deny as many people benefits as they can get away with. The mandatory reconsideration part of the system is probably one of the most pernicious things about it. If you don't ask for that within a set time limit, then you can't appeal. You have to start the process all over again.

I have nothing but contempt towards IDS and Osborne. Those two caused so much misery and death. The sad thing is a lot of people whose mental health is wrecked by the stress of the pandemic will probably find themselves unable to access treatment or the extra benefits that help with the hidden costs of disability, mental health etc.

Thanks for this. Know that you're not alone. Your experiences are replicated the country over. I hope one day there will be a reckoning.

I know that's little comfort. I can only express solidarity and wish you well in your fight against a barbaric systemic, along with better health (and an avenue to vent, if needed).

All the best

Nick

Boris offered to do the job that the people demanded. No other party was interested, or bothered. Doubt they could do any better either.

The problem is you're just talking about Brexit. As if that was all that existed. Of course it was a major thing, but there's the rest of the country to run as well. The damage that needs repairing from the last 10 years botch job for starters. Boris and Brexit weren't just for Christmas.

Read earlier there's a 50,000 backlog of cases in the courts now. I mean what the actual fudge. A justice system so crippled from cuts and mismanagement it's on it's knees. Yet no-one in power cares. It's unbelievable.

And that's just one bit of the iceberg. But as tapzilla says we'll be crashing into it soon at full speed anyway. I'm resigned to that now. And after what I've seen the last 12 months I don't believe anyone else would have done a worse job than what we're seeing. This is the dregs.

A few great points in this thread too with regards to the Rashford standoff.

Lawyers only get paid for time in court, they get nothing for all the preparation they do before which can take days.

Agree no preparation when going to court and 1 missing piece of paper and the case is thrown out. Most of these issues could be solved without necessarily more money, but systems are needed

It is deliberate cut backs over several years.
So much for criminal justice.

I've got a whole dossier to post about what's happened to the justice system over the last decade. Absolutely horrific. Should be no voter happy with what's been going on there. Including with prisons and support outside as well.

But as I've said before, because it's not the NHS it rarely makes the news. Even less so now with Brexit and Covid as well.

Two basic slogans were used without much meat behind them in terms of policy -
1. Get Brexit Done - Withdrawal Act passed off as the deal that gets Brexit done fully, and making trade talks look like a mere formality. When it's always been a two stage process, with the second stage being the most critical part - Trade Deal.
2. Levelling Up - Promising to spend X amount of money on levelling up the country. But when it comes to spending money on alleviating child hunger, it gets voted down.

What astounds me are Tory MP's who don't appear to have a grip on the levels of child poverty in their constituencies and then spaff nonsense that incenses everyone - Free meals: North Devon MP Selaine Saxby urged to quit

The Justice System is broken, I wouldn't be surprised if they attempt to dodge Jury trials just to get through the backlog faster and more cheaply i.e. won't have to pay expenses to members of the public called up for Jury service. They've not got a good track record here, we had a pretty good publicly funded forensic science service which was privatised and led to some pretty poor outcomes. Think that might have been the handiwork of Failing Grayling.

And that's just one bit of the iceberg. But as tapzilla says we'll be crashing into it soon at full speed anyway. I'm resigned to that now. And after what I've seen the last 12 months I don't believe anyone else would have done a worse job than what we're seeing. This is the dregs.

We've got a Z list PM and Cabinet. If we avoid disaster it will be through sheer dumb luck more than anything else. My main worry outside of Brexit, is that given the stress the pandemic has put NHS Staff and others under the increased demand for Mental Health Services will collapse already over stretched and chronically underfunded NHS Mental Health Trusts. Promises from the Tories to bring Mental Health to parity with Physical Health have as of yet to materialise.

There is also this ticking timebomb - Tory leader’s £1bn office buying spree ‘leaves dangerous legacy’ for council

Rashford has exposed the Tory party for what it is - a vapid waste of space that preys on people's fears and offers no real solutions while it drains taxpayer funds into the private sector where the money gets shuffled off into tax havens in some cases.

A deep dive into the polls. Labour making gains where it needs to and The Tories losing where it can't afford to. Won't make for comfortable reading for the Corbynista's attacking Starmer for not being 20 points ahead or Brexiteers (on twitter I shall add) saying Johnson will romp to victory in the next election.
Polling deep dive shows Labour taking first steps towards power

Hopefully the Tories will start getting nervous.
The government should fear the people rather than the other way round.

Honestly.:rotfl:

We’ve only just had an election. 4 more years before the next one and people are talking about polls. 100% certain that the government will be taking a beating right now (and rightly so). Nothing matters right now besides sorting this Covid **** show out. Until then, crazy poll numbers are irrelevant (imo).

Planning for the next election will already be under way, so polls even at this early stage will be useful. Especially in gauging the public mood on COVID and Brexit. Those are the two biggest challenges this Government faces and both could sink them at the next election. Also the Tory MP's who won seats in the red wall have started up a Northern Research Group, seems they are already worried about losing those seats.

Sorting out COVID ? Depends on the scientists developing vaccines and new treatments, what little control the Government do have over COVID, has been an abysmal failure thus far.

And sorting out the next one and the next one...

Seeing as we're briefly talking about polls, far more interesting at the moment are the Brexit ones. Perhaps the new Republic of Kent and the Farage Garage have caused some upset o_O

It could be said though this is about the government's competency and people's views on it. Do they trust them to get anything right? Covid? Brexit? The economy?

I'm suspecting not. And before anyone moans it's about changing the vote, it's actually about looking where we are as a country now compared to where we were. Which thanks to the virus as well, is a considerably different place.

And then there's this.

It's not like we didn't already have a mental health time bomb before the virus did we.

This has been one of our best mental health services too.

No shaking the magic money tree or PPE contract piggy bank for this.

@Nick74

Just Covid related, imo.

Well this aged well

Boris is consistent.
You know, like excrement.

Normally it's fine wine that ages well.

Babycham for this government.

How long will it be before Labour can do better?

Let's hope Starner can create a strong opposition.
