Campfire Audio Andromeda 2020 In Ear Earphone Review & Comments

Good review Ed, it's clear to see that there is a bit of mic drop at the end of this, by both yourself and Andromeda.

The thing that worries me (not that I have the money to buys these) is your concern about getting good seal. We all know IEM's just don't fit all ears, but that means they while they can indeed be the best IEM ever, but with no seal, they fit for nothing but the bin.

Take my IE800's (please take them). Sounded superb once I got a good seal, but it was damn near impossible to get a good fitting. I got as good as sound from the Soundmagic PL50's for £50 most of the time.

Thankfully these seem compatible with the usual 3rd party bud makers and the fitment seems decent, something that the IE800's have neither of.

Great Review, CA Andromeda worth every penny.

For the same price of CA Andromeda how does it compare to a personal ear mould made iem?

That Hugo2 and CA Andromeda combo is just Porn - hardcore.

Also porn lol:

I got around this by using custom tips made by a company call custom art. Work amazingly. Just had my ear impressions done at my local spec saver and sent them off

That really depends on the custom iem you get.

I recently got a set of empire legend x custom made and the seal is great; however their sound sig is completely different to CA andromeda's.

As i said in the IO review, I feel the Andro's are one of, if not the best iem at their price point.

Last year I bought a second hand Astell and Kern SP1000 and a new set of Campfire Solaris and the combination is superb.I replaced the stock cable with a balanced cable which further improved the sound.

There is no custom version of the Andromeda so it is hypothetical.

Adding custom moulded tips to a universal in ear monitor is different to a fully custom in ear monitor, but is an easier entry point to try out, is less financial risk and you preserve better resale.

Custom creates a seal from your ear canal to your outer ear. This should mean better comfort, no sound pressure and better sound quality due to the custom fit. Resale is harder and the buyer has to re shell

Great review @Ed Selley , been looking forward to this and congratulations on getting one of the first reviews out on the new model Andromeda's. Think you managed to beat Darko on this one :) Not sure how long you have these for but they should certainly improve with age so would be good to hear an update later on. Also noticed you have Chord Electronics 2Go which definitely takes the Hugo2 to another level. Are you planning on a review of this too?
I was lucky late last year to get these custom moulds from Snugs for my Andromedas. They are good because it's not just the tips and certainly make a difference to the sound, the bass being more clear and controlled. It also acts to a point as protection of whats is not a cheap piece of kit.
Would love to know how this compare, I love mine but keep considering alternatives such as the solstice.
This brand is coming on leaps and bounds and is finally getting recognition in this country for great IEM's RIght off to walk the dogs now and will be listening to some GusGus on these.

The supplied selection of domes is very good and, as you say, there's aftermarket options too. They are highly dependent on the seal but they do at least give you a good chance of making it.

I feel that @Steven has covered this off pretty thoroughly. The only thing I'd add is that custom fits actually seem to deter me from casual use.

As well as the review and consultancy work, I am also the technical support for Chord Electronics. This means I have a ready supply of the product but that it would be somewhat unethical of me to review them. Who knows, if the supply of 2020 tellys stays limited, we might persuade @Steve Withers to do it.

My ears seem to be perfect for Andromeda - perfect seal with stock CA Silicone Medium wide bore tips.

Lucky bugger. I've got tiny holes with a dog leg shape (according to the audiologist) so it's difficult to get a good fit, Noble Sage will not even sit in my ears at all.

Recently got some Noble K10U to add to my Shure SE846.

Anybody compared against these two as tempted to try the Andromeda?

I sold my se846’s after I heard andromeda. Their cohesion, along with the wider soundstage and sparkly highs was a complete upgrade imo.
The bass isn’t as strong as the 846’s but it’s there and very fast and clean.

I notice improvements across the board with my K10U over SE846 including awesome bass still. SE846 still best for size/shape/comfort for my ears.

Would the Andromeda improve on the K10U or not heard them to compare? The K10U add the sparkly highs too without compromising mids/bass.

I'd assume its maybe slightly behind performance of the K10U?

Actually there is the Campfire Audio Solstice which is basically a custom version of the Andromeda.

Would like to get my hands on a demo pair of Andromeda MW10 for a listen.
