I'd love to start a business with a 'cash till payday' website.

I wonder what requirements there are to start one.

I've been daydreaming of it being really simple to do. You just buy the website software that runs credit checks and some server space, all run from your laptop from the comfort of your home. You start off loaning a small amount and watch it blow up exponentially.

Just a fantasy of course, but it would be nice.

It's a very sad state of affairs really. Those with good credit ratings and a bit of acumen are able to get a huge amount of free credit, and those who are perhaps a little gullible / lacking in willpower and / or common sense get absolutely shafted.

You'd need a credit lender's licence to operate legally, you won't get that without satisfying some quite stringent conditions regarding reserve funds, code-of-practice knowledge, debt recovery procedures etc.

Did anyone shed tears for Wonga?

I get the OP's point though about how easy it seems to be for newbies to appear, not just loans but car sales or comparison websites for example.

Does make you wonder how easy it must be to do.

and wait for the ambulance chaser lawyers to put you out of business.
