So why is it that the CDC, WHO, and the ECDC to name only 3 of many, all recommend the yearly flu vaccine for just about everyone including all children above 6 months with only certain exceptions but the nurse in my doctor's office tells me, "oh no, children shouldn't have the flu vaccine unless they are particularly vulnerable, their immune systems are still developing and it's better if it develops naturally by exposure to these illnesses."
Wow. Doesn't this "health professional" know how the immune system or vaccines work? That stimulating the immune response to provoke antibody production is actually a good thing when it comes to serious infectious diseases. Or are they just trying to save money I wonder? Both alternatives are pretty shitty. Perhaps this nurse has never had the flu. She certainly must be confused about why kids are given the MMR and other childhood vaccines if this is the sum total of her wisdom.
I’m in two minds whether to email my doctor and let her know the kind of advice one of her nurses is giving patients.

“Seasonal influenza causes 4 -50 million symptomatic cases in EU/EEA each year, and 15 000 – 70 000 European citizens die every year of causes associated with influenza. Despite the often short duration of illness, the yearly economic and healthcare burden of influenza is substantial.”
Get your flu shot - it’s painless, the needle is so tiny you don’t even feel the thing.
