Sending Monitors by courier

Ideally monitors are collected in person. If a monitor is to be sent by courier then use:

(a) The original packaging containing the polystyrene foam moulds; or
(b) An appropriate substitute internal packaging that prevents any movement and gives secure padding

A cardboard box only with a thin layer of bubble wrap does not suffice. It may lead to immense disappointment on arrival. Furthermore a courier claim is unlikely to be successful if the internal packaging was not fit for purpose.

Selling Operating Systems and Software

OEM Software and OEM Operating Systems may not be listed on AVF
A notebook or desktop with pre-installed software operating systems is allowed and should be listed in the relevant sub-forum

Allowed:
Legitimate retail copy with original discs
( there is usually a manufacturer restriction on transferring digital software or operating systems)

Not allowed:
Pirated software or operating systems
A serial number on a scrap of paper or sent by PM/email
Developer editions (such as MSDN) as they are not intended for resale

Selling Individual Computer Components / Breaking down complete systems

The section moderators are seeing instances of buyer disappointment and disputes arising, usually that components are "dead on arrival". The following text within the quotation box contains recommended best practice and guidance to ensure a happy and smooth trading experience when purchasing computer components.
Sellers
It is recommended components are verified as being in full working order at time of sale:
(1) desktop screenshots showing the components as installed
(2) detailed macro photography of components (and installed and operational, if possible)
(3) recorded video shorts of the components operational in a system, if possible

These steps help buyers to purchase in confidence. In the event of a post-completion issue being raised it will enable both parties and Moderators to quickly establish whether items are in the same condition on arrival and identify the cause (e.g. insufficient packaging to withstand transport, courier damage, or damage caused during installation - list not exhaustive).

It would be prudent to document serial numbers, invoices and any other information. Please confirm the length of remaining warranty, whether warranty is transferable and any conditions set by the manufacturer / retailer.

Buyers
Before making an offer please ensure that a component is compatible with your existing system! If you purchase a component that is not compatible with your system, but is otherwise as described, then do not expect a refund. It is at the seller's discretion whether you may return the item for a refund.

If a component is "not working on arrival" please outline on thread the full chronology of the unboxing, installation and testing procedure. It would be ideal if secondary components are on hand to isolate the problem to purchased items.

In the unfortunate event you mishandle and break components during installation - it happens - then again do not expect a refund!

No attempt to modify or repair components (by yourself or a third party) should be undertaken without prior discussion with the seller
