Dual Mini Devastator V2 Build (+3HT12s)

Got one HT12 completed and fired up. Really happy with the Matt finish thanks @mkohman for the tips. It sounds great, hard to say how compared to the HTM12 as that was a long time ago, but great nevertheless.

Im now second guessing my choice to build the devs. I’m reading more and more about infrasonics and would love to try them out. My room is tiny and the B&Cs seem to do well in sealed boxes, which would give me sub 15hz bass, and allow me to put one of the subs under the desk in the back of the room. I could put the Dev under the desk but there’d be no leg room at all! Hmmmmmmm

I didn’t think this through before I spent 300 quid on getting my MDF pro cut 😭

That's big change of plan!

The DIY guys on AVS have been raving about the dev as the best all rounder with a unique sound signature.

You're almost there with the subs, so give them a go. You're probably the first one to try it this side of the pond. That alone would motivate me to keep going!

Appreciate that mate, Cheers

Well got the 1st dev done and painted, today was the big day to try one out, got it to the top of the landing and it won’t make the turn. I honestly could cry. Not sure where this leaves me now. I thought with them only being slightly deeper than my old ported cabs they’d make the turn, apparently not. The nice finish I gave them got completely destroyed on the way up too, along with the newly painted bannister. Gutted isn’t the word!

Any suggestions guys? Thought about taking off the bannister but not sure how I'd go about doing that?

Truly sorry for you, mate. Is there no way you can remove the bannister in the way? Even if you have butcher it?
Wood filler and paint can hide multitude of sins!

Just had a look at the bannister then, appears its screwed into the floor boards underneath, can't see how I could get it out without hacking away at everything, and we've just had the upstairs redecorated. I feel so defeated, devastated even!

Looking at the last pic, can you not lift it above the newel post which will also lift it above the radiator and give you a few more inches?

We tried that, we got the sub higher than the radiator and it still wouldn't turn. So we tried lifting over the bannister, but it won't fit length ways, due to the shape of our landing. I honestly thought the extra few cms wouldnt make a difference. The old ported cabs I had were just a few cm less deep and made the turn, snug but they made it.

Damn, hard to see in the pics maybe as it looked like you could lift it straight over the corner post effectively bypassing the turn

Basically the stairs are 74cm wide, the cabs are 66cm deep but 76cm wide, so will only go up sideways, in the picture the distance between the bannister and wall is 70cm, but the subs are length ways, so wouldn't fit even if we lifted over, the issue is the turn, only real way is to take the bannister off which I’m not prepared to do I don’t think.

Let this be a lesson to you DIYers, Measure twice, cut/build once, especially before you pay almost 300 quid to have your wood cut!

My dad is visiting tomorrow to give a hand, hopefully we can maneouvre with 3 of us somehow, he said hes moved bigger things up his stairs and is confident he'll be able to do something with these!

This might be a bit brutal but could you cut a hole in one of the panels so you can pivot it over the banister with the banister inserted into that hole?

My dad suggested the opposite, he’s offered to cut the knob off the top of the banister if needs be and then re-glue. He seems confident enough which is giving me a bit of hope. Will see what happens tomorrow!

Window access to the room? Walk it up a ladder using a rope from the window above.

That was my second thought, it wouldn't fit through the window though, not even close. It’s the sheer weight of the thing causing a lot of issues, I’d estimate it’s easily 100kg.

Hopefully with 3 men something will be workable. If it fits I’m going to have the paint the other one in room, my nice Matt finish is as good as ruined.

What a nightmare. Hope you get something sorted

😀😀😀😀
