Iv just cloned my PC to an SSD and fitted it , ( the last drive was 500gb so never really noticed how much was taken up by W7)
but i'v noticed now that it is using about 46gb ( give or take few gb's for other programs )

surly that can't be right , can it ?

Yeah, that's about right.

A lot of it is the windows component store which allows programs to use their version of a common library by keeping program-specific copies. This does cut down on problems but the trade-off is that it takes up more space than pre-vista versions of Windows and increases the size of the windows directory as you install more programs.

Ok thank you
iv had a look around and some say there's is about 30/35gb
but i guess it's just the way things are :smashin:

System restore and Virtual memory take up a fair wack.

If you have 8gb + ram id turn off Virtual memory, and IF space becomes an issue delete old restore points.
