This is the Easy/Fast/Cheap/Safe Method to remove the red tint and lower the elvevated blacklevls that most 9G Kuros suffer from today.

What you need:
9G Kuro with red tint and elevated blacklevels
Harmony Remote

(Tanks to "Inferno" for posting the code)

Hex/Pronto code for SM access
(one long line)

This is good but I think it would be good idea to put a warning at the top about possible problems caused by changing the wrong thing in the service menu.

Thanks
just follow the steps and there is no problem or danger.
i think everyone will fix this thats why i dont use any warnings.

putting up big warning signs will only scare people away and make it look more difficult than it is.
if someone still accidently changes something they shouldnt change we can deal with it if it happends.

Does changing from 128 to 90 (or 80 for sets with over 10k hours) apply to KRP-600A? Many thanks.

Did this exact method on a krp500a however there is still a slight red tint visable on an all black screen, anyone got any other tips, I tried dropping rstp from 24 to 18 but it didn't seem to make much difference, I've just had it calibrated so I suppose any further tinkering would destroy all the good work?

I purchased a Logitech Harmony Ultimate remote, but cannot input or don't know how to input those Hex code into the remote. Logitech desktop software doesn't give me option to input Hex code. Is there any way to do it without contacting logitech customer support? If contacting logitech customer support is a must, what is their email address?

Hey you have to contact Logitech and get them to do it, register your remote via the website then when logged in raise a new support request via the help menu and ask them to input the hex code, they will email back when it's done and you then have to sync the remote to the downloaded software you used to sync it with the tv in the 1st place

On my 111fd (American model) the blacks only look red on the bottom and top of screen while watching a movie and when the screen is completely black like when I first turn on my TV. The blacks look normal if it is a black scene from a movie. Is this normal for this issue?

Yep, and as you say you can only notice it in a darkened room, but once you do it diverts your attention bigtime! Trust me if you sort it out it's like getting a new TV!

Yea its all i can look at at night when trying to watch something! Thank you

I have recently purchased a ten year old LX5090 and whilst I am overall very happy with it, I certainly do notice the dreaded red tint to the black when watching in a darkened room. It's something I could live with if I have to, but I have read up on most of the (many!) forum threads on this site and others about accessing the service menu to defeat the elevated blacks and red tint, and I would love to try it - specifically using the method detailed in this thread. But, I'll be honest and admit I'm completely out of my depth here and am struggling to understand exactly what I need to do. Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of a service engineer in the East Sussex area of the UK (specifically Eastbourne/Brighton area) who might be able to access the service menu and carry out this adjustments for me?? Thanks

In my opinion its a waste of time. I spent time and money trying to fix mine with pretty lousy results. You might end up spending a bunch of time on this without accomplishing much. I replaced mine with a 65" panasonic plasma which to me is better in every single way. Im off the Kuro train. Good luck.

Sorry to hear you didn't get yours fixed. So did the procedure detailed at the start of this thread not work for you at all? Or was it that the red tint came back eventually anyway? I definitely don't want to spend a lot of time (or money!) on trying to fix this, but I was encouraged by positive reports like this

I tried everything recommended on every form I could find. Mine ended up looking about the same when i was done. I've come to the conclusion that most people do not have success with this and trust me when I say it consumed a lot of my time. I ended up replacing it with a 65 inch Panasonic vt30 which to my surprise looks better in every single way. I think I bought into the Kuro legend a little too much. The Panasonic only cost me $200 US and has a superior picture and is also much newer with less use. I will recommend everyone look into these Panasonic's from this time forward, i've owened 4 Kuros so I feel pretty fit to Proclaim that the Panasonic has a superior picture quality.

A 50" HD Panasonic plasma was my first choice actually - but the Kuro LX5090 became available at what I considered a good price (£200 - so not as good a deal as $200 for a 65"!) so I decided to take a chance on it. I'm overall very happy with the LX5090, but the red tint is an annoyance, and if I can fix it without spending much time or money on it, I might as well give it a try. I curious as to why the voltage adjustment would (reportedly) work for some screens and not others?

ginola14 Did you manage to completely remove the red tint from your KRP500a?

it will take you five minutes to rid the tint, with voltage tweaks only, and cost you about 25 quid for a harmony remote, unless you have one

The red tint is 100% fixable. I purchased an old KRP-600A earlier this year with red tint. I then purchased a Logitech remote, entered the HEX code by Logitech customer support, after that I was able to follow the instruction to remove the red tint. Your 50” model should have a better result than 60” KURO. Please give it a go, it is part of the fun to optimise this fantastic plasma, you need to be patient throughout the process. Any questions please let us know.

Definitely worth it...
Bought a 5090 from new 11 yrs ago which set me back 2.4k... started to get rid tint and pioneer said it was within spec I was about to loose my s*** !!! But the Logitech remote method saved that tv...
Had a used krp500 and 600 for my den then a 5090 to tie me over when I sold off the 600.. the remote worked wonders for me and made the blacks near oled like... I've seen many Panasonic plasmas too as friends had them but if your into 3d then go for it but on pure pic quality only the last gen vt65 zt60 I personally could have over a kuro..
If I had couple hundred quid it would be top of my list... I suppose I have the best of both now my original 5090 in the family room and a Panasonic ez oled in my den..
In my situation I in a way regretted selling my krp500 for the 600 as although the 600 had the wow factor bigger brighter the 500 had a better picture and bezel blending blacks... either way getting the tweak done gives you a feeling of a new tv..

This is all ready encouraging to hear! I'm going to order a Harmony 350 now and give it a go myself. I've read so much over the last couple of days about this red tint issue, and possible causes and remedies, that it was starting to make my head spin. But what has been explained here sounds simple enough. Will let you know how I get on.

Good stuff.. as said it saved my tv and prob countless others before this tweak sold off their kuros thinking it was a massive repair no joking I probably would have been added to that list if closer to the time just msg someone and sure plenty folk on here be willing to help.
