My Pioneer BDP-170 has failed and I'm looking for a replacement. I want something that can play media files from a USB drive. Films from .mkv files with 5.1 soundtracks and with embedded subtitles. Also I would like to be able to play FLAC 5.1 music files. My Pioneer managed all this. What else can?

Can any of you kind, knowledgeable folk suggest a replacement?

You should be OK with the Sony range, X500, X700 or X800-MII.

you might want to consider a 2nd hand PS3, you can pick them up for cheap and they make great media players, im not sure if they can play mkv files but i use mine for blu-ray and music streaming

I think some people have mentioned noise from the ps3, maybe would be better with a dedicated BD player.

Yes, I used to have a PS3 and when it got older the fan made quite a noise.

Thanks for the advice. I went the Sony route as suggested, although as I don't have a 4K TV, I didn't go for a UHD player. I bought an S6700 which does all I wanted. Thanks.
