MK sound speakers (part 2)

The new 150 range look good. Has anybody heard them in action for music/movies ? How much of a performance difference is there between the new version the model it replaces ?

Secondly, I remember some members recommending the S150T for Atmos height speakers. Has anyone tried them in either the 2 or 4 configuration on the ceiling? Where do the side firing drivers point to ? - front and back of the room ?

Would be nice to hear from someone who has 4 tripoles on the ceiling.

Gecko and I think Rock Danger have them

I did have 4 of the S150T on the ceiling. It was a decision I made back at the time when no one was really sure what position Dolby Atmos and DTS:X would take and it was speculated that DTS as usual would win the format war, but now DTS have had their layout tuned for Atmos by AVR's firmware.

But I digest....

They were good, the side drivers are pointed firing up and down the length of the room. I now have IW150 in the ceiling, I think they're better, look better and because I have 4X S300T's on the base layer I may have had too many tripoles.

Gecko uses S300T's in the overhead position and then MP300's as heights right at the front.

I thought Gecko were using 150T’s in the annexe, but I’ve not been there in a long while, so might have changed, I know about the 300’s in the Rives room as I was there when they were put in.

Just finishing off an MK MP950 5.2 system. LCR MP950, M4T Surrounds, Dual V12 Subwoofers, Anthem MRX 520, Sony 65” Pro LED TV and a full house/garden Control4 system inc CCTV and alarm.

Hi all, not sure where the correct place was to pose the following question (this thread/Arcam/Subwoofer):

I am going to run dual V12 Subwoofers which will be located over 8 metres from my Arcam 550.
I damaged 2 x 10m subwoofer cables whilst pulling through conduit last night (combination of cheap cables and dodgy conduit runs installed by me last year), but when i can afford the upgrade i will put in better quality cables. To avoid damaging any new good quality cables an alternate cable route has been identified but the cable length will need to be increased to 15 metres.

Am i better off running dual feeds from the Armcam (sub1 and sub2) at 15 meter cables (£60+ per cable) or will i get as good as or better results (from a DIRAC point of view) by daisy chaining from Arcam sub1 to the 1st V12 then on to the 2nd V12 (using a second shorter quality cable (same make)?

Any advice is appreciated

Thanks for the reply. I have bought from kenable previously but that was networking gear not audio cables. I will take a look at their website.

Thanks again

Charlie

@Taffthomas my sub cable was £15, yours should be about £25. £60+ is just asking to be ripped off.

Hi Rock Danger,

What cable are you using and where would I find one like it?

Thanks
Charlie

Hi Rock Danger
Thanks for the heads up. Coming in at just over £27 per 15m length. I have seen lots of good comments with regard to Van Damme cables on numerous threads here and on AVS.

Regards

Charlie

I've a full Lyngdorf / MK suite wired with it, I'm fine with the outcome. By all means spend a bit more if you feel you want it, you won't hear it but you know.. hearts wants what it wants an all that. something at £30 I guess would be perfect no more than that tho.

I was going to add to my last post, if you are using these cables with your listed equipment they can't be bad. I will probably look at matching the interconnects for Arcam to power amps at some stage also.

Thanks for giving your time and advice

Yeah, there's nothing fancy in the cabling on this entire system and I love hifi cable porn, but I've worked in too many studio environments over 20 yrs and have yet to see any unicorn smoked 100% uranium free range interconnects anywhere.

You can usually pick up a deal in the AVF classifieds for cables etc, don't have to be new - just buy something decent, you'll be fine.:smashin:

AVF classifieds have been a god send. All of my speakers have been purchased here second (even third) hand. Spent most of time trawling for speakers, then amps. Thankfully all now nearly complete -just an Oppo 203 and a couple of cables to save for and source.

I have the MK750 at the moment and was wondering if switching to the MK950lcr will be enough of an upgrade to warrant the expense. Has anyone had a chance to audition both.
