NEWS: LG UK 2018 OLED and Super UHD TVs confirmed

Great article mark, whilst it seems like the 2018 offerings from sony are more of the same, i am very intrigued as to how the suhd sets perform this year, lg are leaps and bounds ahead with the webOS system, i just hope that full array backlight can bring their ips tv's into competition.

Any ideas when there will be any hands on testing?

Very happy with my 65c7, but I think I'd be happier with a 77c8 :)

From engadget, they have the US RRPs:
Signature W8 series, which will be available in 65- and 77-inch versions priced at $7,000 and $15,000
C8 series will come in 55-, 65- and 77-inch versions, which will cost $2,500, $3,500 and $9,000
E8 series will be available in two sizes -- 55- and 65-inch -- and they're priced at $3,500 and $4,500, respectively.
Pricing and availability hasn't yet been announced for the B8 series.

Do the LG's announced prices normally equal the dollars in pounds?
If that is the case then the 77 C8 will be £9k which should be around 4.5k come black Friday :)

Probably adjusted for popularity of 65" in the UK, maybe, possibly  Shops will have different prices anyway.

Gimmie them SUHD prices!

There are different exchange rates Korean Won - USD and Korean Won - GBP, also different rates of duty between EU and US. US prices don't show local sales tax. Market pricing will alter selling prices as well. So I don't think you can draw any comparisions between the US and UK pricing.

Was going to wait another 2yrs to upgrade my 58DX750 but if I can get the 65" SK8000 for just over £1000 later in the year then back to LG I go.

It's only supposed to be £1599 at launch and is FALD, could be good.

SUHD Eh? At screen sizes at which 4K was only a marginal improvement over HD in any real word setting? Be still my beating heart!

TV manufacturers truly are the snake oil traders of the modern age.;)

Man TV's have come a long way since the days of the Panny PDP's Mark.

Indeed... But TV's are only part of the story. Arguably, the greatest improvement to overall image quality has been the transition from 8-bit video encoding to 10-bit video encoding along with HDR.

Which (simplistically) means our TV's are not limited to displaying 16,777,210 different colours with 256 levels of white to black. They can now display a massive 1,073,741,824 different colours with 1,024 levels of white to black ;)

Excellent knowledge - I'll ask for a bit more. :D

The 65" C7 was £4,499 at launch, and is now £2,799.

How quickly did it come down to that price?

Was the price drop gradual, or in one or two big jumps?

Based on past experience, will the '17 models drop in price further to shift stock before the new '18 models appear?

Cheers.

Easiest to show the price decrease with the 55B7:

UK launch price was the same as the 55C7-£3000. Graph doesn't allow for discount codes which usually show up at start of autumn, black friday, christmas, spring.

If you're wondering about going forward for the rest of the year until B7 is not carried?
Going by the 6 series price it it should reduce further by another £100-200 until the stock dries up after next model released.

Wonder if the C series will follow suit and be another Currys Exclusive. Shame if it is

Typically, the soundbar has been dropped on the 2018 E-series OLED, just when I was looking for that neat, 'all-in-one' look for a different room!

the loss of the soundbar on the 77" C8 isn't a problem for me, I am hoping that the new Samsung Atmos soundbar (N950 I think) will be a great replacement for the previous model, and the price of the C8 at around £10000 is great news compared to the cost of a 77" (£25K) last year

If a deal on both is available later in the year, even better!! :)

Surely the new LG sound bar will be better suited. It’s sized to match a 65 inch. Search sk10y LG. There is also a wireless add on kit. Search SPK8-S.

Not according to Forbes:

The only potential pity is that the built-in ‘soundbar' we’ve seen with a previous couple of E-series OLED generations has here disappeared to make way for the new extra glass.

The hdtvtest guy said the e8 has a slimmer soundbar that "produces the same sound as before" in his CES 2018 videos.
