Loewe - "Made in Germany" - is back

Sadly my German is limited to Achtung Spitfire. Anything of note?
Loewe is back on the TV market and wants to start afresh with "Made in Germany" and a new owner and continue to hold on to the TV location in Kronach, Franconia. The production of televisions is already running again and new TV developments are to be launched soon. In the future, the traditional brand will also be used to develop further product segments outside of televisions. We spoke with Mr. Aslan Khabliev, CEO & Owner Loewe Technology GmbH, about the state of affairs as well as visions for the future after two recent bankruptcies.

SATVISION: They recently resumed Loewe TV production in Kronach, Franconia. As one of the last providers, you rely on TV production in Germany. How will the traditional Loewe brand also differentiate itself from other TV manufacturers in the future?

Aslan Khabliev: In the future, Loewe will produce a large part of its products in Kronach, fulfilling its "Made in Germany" promise. This quality feature continues to enjoy a great reputation in the world and is an essential part of our strategy to distribute Loewe products even more internationally. In addition, there is the positioning in the premium segment. This includes an independent and interior design-oriented look and feel, the use of high-quality materials and individual detailed solutions.

SATVISION: Which TV series will also be produced in Kronach in the future and which models will not?

A. Khabliev: Our production in Kronach has been running again since March. We currently work with automated manufacturing as well as a hand-held manufacturer in which the top models are produced. As in the past, we are concentrating on the production of OLED TV devices at the Kronach site and plan to expand our capacity to around 100,000 devices by the end of the year.

SATVISION: What do you personally associate with "Made in Germany" in terms of the consumer electronics market?

A. Khabliev: "Made in Germany" is a globally recognized label that stands for the highest quality in terms of product development, reliability and also sustainability. Incidentally, this is not only true in the field of consumer electronics.

SATVISION: When will you present the first new Loewe TVs and how many series will the new lineup consist of?

A. Khabliev: We are working our new portfolio. First of all, it is a new line-up to Loewe TVs and a completely new audio portfolio. Originally, we wanted to present these new products to our partners in the trade and media as well as to the consumer within the framework of the IFA. However, as the IFA cannot take place as planned, this year we are relying on our own format, with which we can present our portfolio and make the brand values tangible. In concrete terms, we would like to present information and further details about the new products to the retail trade as part of roadshows.

SATVISION: Can you tell us the first details about the new TVs at this point?

A. Khabliev: We are currently continuously developing technical changes and improvements, updates and facelifts. For example, the bild 3 and bild 5 models have already received the latest OLED panel generation and a new motherboard generation. From September this year, we will introduce the new TV portfolio to retailers.

SATVISION: How important do you attach to 8K image resolution and where is Loewe currently focusing on TV development?

A. Khabliev: The topic of 8K is on everyone's mind, so as a TV manufacturer we are naturally also dealing with this technology. We already have some ideas for a first product in this segment. However, it is still too early to give further details here. Our current focus in the TV category is on the launch of the first newly developed devices. For us, this is about attracting customers and trading partners back to the brand and convincing them with high quality, independent design and the corresponding service.

SATVISION: What role will the audio area play at Loewe in the future?

A. Khabliev: The topic of audio is of enormous importance to Loewe. Thus came the best-selling active soundbar in Europe by value, the Loewe Individual Sound Projector, from Loewe and also the integrated soundbars of our TVs are today superior to many other separate soundbars. On this basis, we will offer a much broader audio portfolio in the future and open up new target groups in this segment for Loewe.

SATVISION: They have also announced that they want to occupy completely new product groups with Loewe. Which ones are in detail and when will you launch the first products? Will you also rely on "Made in Germany" here?

A. Khabliev: It is true that we also deal with new products and product categories that go beyond the TV and audio portfolio with which Loewe has been present on the market for years. However, these plans are to be seen in the longer term. In 2020, we will focus on the successful reboot of Loewe with all our resources. On the one hand, this means that we are once again convincing the existing trading partners and that we also attract new dealers. We are already on the right track here. However, the new products will be of crucial importance for both retailers and consumer success, first and then in the well-known categories. For this reason, the new performances in the TV and Audio segments are the top priority for the current year.

SATVISION: After two bankruptcies, how would you like to convince Loewe customers and interested parties to continue to trust the traditional brand in the future?

A. Khabliev: We want to convince by products as before and also by our actions. For our products, we rely on first-class design, high-quality materials and individual solutions for our customers. In the relationship, therefore, we tie in with old traditions. However, due to the history of history, our actions are now much more important. In concrete terms, this means that we only announce things that we can implement. And here we are on the right track: Our original plan was to create about 50 to 60 jobs at the Kronach headquarters by the end of the year. Today, less than six months after the restart, a team of more than 100 employees works in the areas of sales, marketing, development, service and production. This is just one example that shows how we are fulfilling our commitments and thus rebuilding trust.

SATVISION: Allow us at this point to ask two private questions: What kind of TV is in your private living room and what kind of TV do you are? Do you prefer classic linear television or do you prefer to stream?

A. Khabliev: Personally, I use streaming services more often, but from time to time i do linear television. As far as the device is concerned, I tend to have larger screen diagonals. Of course, Loewe products are now used in my household.

SATVISION: Please complete the following sentence: "The new Loewe TVs will be different from the previous models in that ..."

A. Khabliev: ... they will have many more smart functions and interfaces. In addition, some of the new products are also designed to be offered directly internationally. This, too, is new and has not been the case with Loewe.

SATVISION: Thank you for the conversation.

Thanks. Not sure where Franconia is. It would have been helpful to hear they will keep the original Bild models updated with apps as and when they appear.
