NEWS: Marantz introduces NR1711 slimline 8K AVR

Will there be a cheaper 5.1 version of this like usual (ie a "NR1511")?

Ooooh I'm liking the look of that.

Great feature set and a BIG saving over the similarly spec'd AVRs it looks like a great choice for Series X / PS5 gamers. V tempting :).

Glad we are seeing some HDMI 2.1 goodness. I'd love to get a new marantz prepro preamp by the end of the year.

I had a previous iteration of this receiver and it was great. I was using it for home cinema in a small living room where it more than did the job. So for gamers this should easily suffice. Adding something like the Tannoy HTS101 or Boston XP speakers will give you a system way better than any 5.1 PC setup.

£649? I've been holding out for some kind of reduction but none that I can see, as yet.

It has only just been launched. Why would any retailer want to reduce its price? If looking for discounts then you have to wait. The best discounts ordinarilly become apparent at the end of a products shelf life and not when first launched.

Hifix have it cheaper than most

Always liked the slimline. Was thinking of replacing mine with the monster sr8015. Finding the slims under powered when running all speakers.

Hmm, if I go for the 1711, what sort of challenges did you face with power? I have a pair of Q Acoustics 3020i, a 3090ci and generic satellites, coupled with BK sub, used for combination of music and movies.

Don't get me wrong, these are very good units. I'm on my third one. I just find that driving 7 speakers is pushing it. Find the volume level is over 2 thirds of the way to get it going with big action movies. I'm only running Kef's 3005 egg speakers. I just fancy the big monster unit on my next upgrade and when it drops in price a little. When its around £2k, then I'm game on.

Cheers. I'll be upgrading from a 10yr old Denon AVR1610 which I believe is only slightly more powerful so might not notice much change.

Anyone found a decent review as need a review before i bite the bullet on this.
I hooked one up and had a listen to it yesterday. I have a pretty small living room about 3.5 x 4m and decent sized Boston bookshelf monitors across the front of the system. I really liked it. The set-up was brilliantly simple and it was very functional to use. I thought that the sound processing was excellent and it genuinely had a really very musical sound, it was drawing my attention to the soundtrack of the movies I was demoing as opposed to the effects. I thought it handled playback of my turntable surprisingly well too, although I was listening through my Rega phono pre-amp and not the on board phono input.
On the negative side of things it was underpowered for my system, but, it’s a dinky little thing so it’s hardly surprising.
I’d definitely recommend it for someone looking to power a slightly smaller speaker system.

I have one for my front room. Its compact footprint is perfect for my needs. Will be powering Bowers Wilkins 705 Fronts, 707 Surrounds and HTM71 s2 centre 👍

An older receiver from this range was my first one. Very nice space saving unit with great features. The power might seem low but in reality it is more than enough for most UK living rooms.

The 4k/120hz issue won't affect most people but it might give pause to someone thinking about upgrading in general and gamers in particular.

Hi, if using with proper power amp as pre out (so power is handled correctly) are here, is there any disadvantages with comparing with bigger marantz brothers?

The NR1711 doesn't include the HDAM circuitry you'd get with the full sized SR models and you'd only get Audyssey MultEQ as opposed to the more advanced XT or XT32 versions.

Why do so many manufacturers of AV gear quote such pointless power outputs? 4 ohm, 1%THD 1ch driven is just a way of making a power figure look much better than it is.

I think they do it to make the power figure look much better than it is.

I'm replacing my 20 y o Sony STR-DB930 receiver/amp relocating to a new position under my TV, so the NR1711 fits the bill perfectly. I want to postion 2 existing, spare, Mordaunt Short M10 speakers behind the TV to fire upward to my ceiling 6ft above, for the Dolby Atmos effects ( when available). I have viewed a very informative video on YouTube showing how easy peasy the NR1711 is to setup and that there is no need to buy new Dolby Atmos specified speakers.

I note that the launch price of £649 has now risen to £749 at my 2 local stockits in Manchester. I would have expected a price drop, a year later :thumbsdow, puzzled, I wonder why?.
However, maybe the price will be reduced on Black Friday 🤞.

Having viewed the review link in post #18 and only using the amp for TV, Virgin Media V6 cable and 4K Bluray DVD sources in my lounge, I would welcome any additional installation/setup tips from posters with this receiver amp. See my signature for existing TV, speakers etc.

No Black Friday offers on the NR1711 due to general market place shortage of stock so decided to place order with Audio-T for delivery by next Monday/Tuesday. :smashin:
Watched an excellent NR1711 setup video on YouTube showing how straight forward it will be. I'll be adding my 2 spare Mourdant Short M10s to fire upwards for Dolby Atmos :) . Hoping they will be effective. Presenter of the video states it's not necessary to purchase specialist 'Atmos' speakers.
