this is definately the most difficult device i have tried to obtain.

Oculus rift CV1, PS2 and PS3 all spring to mind when it comes to hard to get at launch.

Keep an eye on eBuyer. They’ve listed some new cards that were not available for preorder.

Can you not lend it off them for the time being ?

Maybe, I didn't ask. I didn't want to take liberties since the price he's offered is so low.

Arrived earlier today. £720 from Friday's drop. Which seems bizarre as MSRP is seemingly £740. Very chuffed to have it though.

No harm in asking ,
tbh for a £100 and if you have the money i would snap it up .
it would easy see you over , till the middle of next year ... by that time your mate would have forgot about and then you can sell it on lol
or keep it in case anything happens to your new GPU if you pick one up which will be a lot easier to buy , than it is now ....

My 3090 arrived today. Oh my gosh what a card this is. I've only tried 3 games so far.
Rdr 2 with everything on ultra and the resolution modifier Cranked right up. Astounding graphics
Then it was odyssey. Once again everything on ultra and resolution modifier up to 200. The graphics are even more breathtaking than usual. At this level they are phenomenal
Last up tonight was battlefield 5.same again with the graphics as everything absolutely maxed out with rt and all the other rtx effects
The Norway story looks so good. The framerates are silky smooth.
Oh yes, the 3090 is pricey but you won't be able to run these games at these levels as they need way over the paltry 10gb the 3080 has.
The 3090 is truly a breathtaking card.

Keep telling yourself that to justify the cost :rotfl:
Wasn't long ago he was maxxing everything out at 4K on a 970........ There was absolutely no need to get an new expensive card at that time as the 970 did it all.......

Oh yeah remember that now :rotfl:

That was 1st thing that came to mind hahaha

Glad those extra few frames were worth more then double the price of the 3080💪

Back to the real world. Who is going to try their luck on the 3070 launch?

How much VRAM is being allocated to these titles?

Me but I don't see it happening.

I was tossing up between a new gpu or an XSX. In the end I've decided on new gpu lol but we'll see what happens on the 29th!

Well over 10gb
Really? Assassins Creed Odyssey / Battlefield V only allocate around 8GB. RDR2 around 6GB.

In fact I dont think many current games allocate more than around 9GB. And thats only how much is *allocated* by a 3090, never mind actually used.
Have a look at this. Keep an eye on the GPU MEM column. The extra VRAM is not being used.

I think MSFS does but not till 5k + and Skyrim with mods. Theres one other title, cannot think of it. Its certainly not any of the games he listed.

People get confused by requested and VRAM used. Games will ask or reserve as much as they can.

Agreed.
A 3090 will gain you a little bit extra performance, but its not due to the extra VRAM.
Whether the performance gain is worth the extra £700 is the question we have to ask ourselves.

Whither the performance gain is worth the extra £700 is the question we have to ask ourselves.
If you edit, work in unreal engine, render massive workloads or do compute and play games -150% worth it.

If you do none of the above except game, no. Its as straight forward as that! 😂

I spent more than that on new motherboard, PSU, ram and CPU and got less than 10% performance boost in games.

Everyone is thinking that it's only a 10-15% performance boost and 10GB memory is more than enough - Which may be the case right now, with games being made for the lowest denominator which is a 5 year old PS4 gen.
With new consoles coming out games will start to move forward again with new graphic tricks to stress cards, more games taking advantage of DLSS and RT, new gen games streaming in lots of graphic data from their fast SSDs etc. The next generation games in VR and 4k will quickly eat up those frames of a 3080 and 3090.
I'd rather know I have a bit of headroom over the 3080 rather than have a 3080 then realise that frame rates get to what it was previously like with the 2080ti , an £1100 GPU which struggled to hit 60fps @ 4k running some last gen console games and those same games had 8GB or more of vid memory used.

As an example. The mod linked in my sig has 6GB of textures loaded in and hits 60fps but dips to 52fps in certain parts. That may run at around 52fps on a 3080 and dip to low 40s in some areas. That game is 8 year old xbox 360 port.

So yeah, I'm happy with my 3090 and I'd buy another if they brought back a fully working NVLink.

Thats all when and good.
But you could buy a 3080 now, and in 4 years time buy the same equivalent of the 3080, all for the price of a 3090. Not only would you then have what would be a much faster card, you could also sell the 3080. So you've essentially paid the same price for less performance based on your theory
