As an LX500 owner it does have a superb multi channel SACD playback. No too shabby on blu ray and UHD either. Don't use it for stereo SACD or CD playback as I've two standalone SACDs players for those duties. It does have stereo analogue out in it's 'Direct' function for connection to a separate stereo amp if wishing to by-pass a multi channel receiver.
The support is still there with OPPO. Agree no firmware changes for a while. Had an issue with a disc not playing correctly recently. Contacted OPPO and a suggestion was made which worked and i could watch the disk.

Reply thanking me.

Hi Michael,
thanks for the kind words, we're aiming to keep up a good level of support.
Best Regards
Oliver
my 203 plays everything i throw at it,why would it need a firmware update,i thought the extended version of black hawk down caused freezes on a layer change for lots of players, though im pretty sure it played fine for me.
My reason for contacting OPPO was that Gemini Man 4K UHD disc would not play. I received a replacement disc and this would not play either.
OPPO suggested the below and this worked, you do not need to leave the player on this setting afterwards for other discs.
From email:
so I take it you have played other Dolby Vision discs before, that's good to know!;
In that case please set the OPPO to 4k 24 as a fixed resolution, it will be interesting to see if you still lose the picture.
Is your OPPO set to TV-Led for Dolby Vision?
Player was already set to TV-Led.
Hope this may help for other people.

The problem is with the extended version, it has lip sync issues & sound dropouts. Exchanged for a new disc & this still didn't make any difference. They advised it was possibly a fault of the disc manufacturer

Same here, two replacement disc's all the same issues at different points, could be due to BD100. In previous firmware releases Oppo addressed issues like these.
Is your 203 going through a receiver or direct to the TV.
Also where did you purchase The disc from.
Mine is through a Marantz 7703 to a LG E7 OLED and both discs were from Zavvi.
I have seen a few people having problems playing this disc on other players as well.

Hi I've owned my OPPO 203 for about 3 years now and wondered if anyone knows the Part number for the Optical Laser Pickup, either that or a link to the service manual? Mine is working fine and is the best player by a long shot, but as with all these optical players the laser pickup is likely to fail at some point. I'm kicking myself I didn't buy one for my Sony MZ-RH1 2 years ago when they were still available, so probably prudent to buy one for the Oppo in advance.
Although that seems on the face of it a sensible move, I'm not sure it would help very much if your existing pickup broke, other than if Oppo came back to you and said "I'm sorry, we have no more spares", you could could tell them that you had one you could send in with the unit for repair. The reason being that there's a block of alignment data specific to the pickup/loader combination that needs to be setup. There have a been a few cases where 203s have suddenly stopped playing discs because the setup memory has somehow been corrupted and Oppo were able to send them to original factory alignment data for their serial number and a utility to restore it. I'm pretty sure that if you changed the pickup you would still need Oppo to align it in their workshop for you.

That is absolutely correct, I experienced the common "Unknown Disc" error with my 205 & after trying cleaning the laser & multiple factory resets, I was stumped for a long time as were OPPO until they suggested one last possible fix which was to reflash my laser's calibration data & would you believe it, it actually resolved my issue, so it wasn't a faulty or dying laser pickup unit but my pickup unit seemingly became corrupted while it was trying to read a scratched dvd that had been cleaned with a disc cleaning machine one too many times.
Mm thanks for the replies! Ok, well I'm able to replace the laser myself physically as did this a few times on my old BDP-S5000ES and the same on portable minidisc recorders. In terms of calibration, sounds like it's similar to the service mode of my Hi-MD recorder which allows you adjust the HEX values to drive the laser power. If one had access to the service manual, one wouldn't need to deal with Oppo. I take your points though, and interesting regarding resolving what appeared to be a failed laser with "NVRAM" settings.

Things may well have moved on since those days though, you simply may not be able to make the required adjustments without specialised tools and test equipment. Hell, I can't even change the battery in my car these days without having to connect the car to a computer to tell it there's a different battery installed!

Hey all, I have a question regarding the audio on the Oppo 203
I've got my oppo hooked up to my LG B6 Oled 55 inch TV via the hdmi which came with the oppo. One thing I've noticed though is whenever I watch a movie on the oppo I have to put the volume on my TV up to between 80-90 to get a decent volume level on it.
Any idea why this is?
When using anything else connected to the TV.. (My pc tower, xbox, playstation, Nintendo switch, virgin media box) I get a perfectly decent level of volume between 20-30 which what makes me think its an oppo issue as opposed to a TV issue

The HDMI is just sending a digital audio signal to the TV. The TV will decode and amplify it, there is no amplification on board the Oppo. The recorded audio on the disc sometimes differ. You could change the film audio to LPCM in the disc menu and have the Oppo's audio output set to PCM.
