Panasonic GZ950 4K OLED Review & Comments

Yes, the 65" GZ950 still appears to be available from most places at the moment. I would be wary about buying an expensive TV from some of those retailers on your list though - problems with these sets seem to be rare but they can happen, so make sure you choose one that has good customer service. I would also immediately disregard any who don't include a 5 or 6 year warranty - you should be getting one for free when spending that sort of money.

Thanks Mike. I’ll definitely consider that when buying.

I wanted the 65 inch model. I can see that it’s still available on few websites. But yeah I take your point, they may not last till Black Friday.
Panasonic announced the HZ980 as a replacement for HZ960. In many parts of Europe, it is expected this month (if not out already). I suspect that waiting until Black Friday won't get you any better deals. In general, when I used to live in the UK, I found premium TVs to get better sales in the summer or the boxing-day sales. Might be me, or the models I was looking at.

Would that be the case too with Sony AG9? Sorry I know it’s the wrong topic, but maybe someone here can help.
Sony is keeping the AG9 in its lineup, so it is unlikely that it will disappear. It is also unlikely that it will see significant price cuts. Unlike the AG8, which is replaced.

In my view, if you can get a good deal now, go for it and do not look back. The GZ950 is a great TV. It passed my expectations. The differences between this and the HZ980 boils down to the Filmmaker and Dolby Vision IQ modes. Arguably, neither is worth the price premium. Switching between Professional 1 and 2 modes should suffice and, to be honest, I can hardly see how it could get any better in 95%++ of the situations.

PS: Make sure you get it from a reputable seller. Richard Sounds and other more specialised stores tend to offer significant better warranty and aftersales support than the likes of PC Word/Curry's and can price match non-grey stock. Supporting a local store is also a bonus if you can. ;-)

Thanks a lot for the info. Very helpful indeed!

Another vendor to check out for the GZ950 if they still have stock is Costco. I got mine from there and it comes with a 5 year warranty.

Hey all. Been enjoying the GZ950 during the lockdown but I'm wondering (coming up to 3000 hours use) if the screen is developing an issue? Hopefully the below video works and you can see a flicker/pulsing of the picture every few seconds.

It does this every 10-30 seconds on all inputs (TV Netflix app here) and with all picture enhancements off and recommended settings from here. Been doing it for ~3 weeks now.

Any ideas or things to try? Thanks.

Just to update this, I finally made contact with JL and the screen is going to be replaced.

Hi all,
Finally got my GZ950 arriving next week. Which soundbars do you recommend? Looking to spend around £900 max. Fairly small living room.
Thanks.

I am using a beam and 2 play 1s and it fills the room nicely.

hmm anyone else have random tiny dots of something under the screen, got lots of them that I noticed when cleaning the screen in a dark room and shining a light at it to check for smudges.. not uniform and some areas don’t have any.

Quick picture using the flash. Don’t notice while sat watching TV but now I’ve seen it...

For Apple tv 4k, i use the dark dolby vision warm2 gamma 2.4
For netflix app, Netflix mode warm2 gamma 2.4
For other apps on the TV, pro 1, warm 2 gamma 2.2
For PS4 , gaming mode, gamma 2.2

FYI: Costco have the 65GZ1000 for £1699. I ordered one yesterday. Expecting delivery on Friday.

They have the 55GZ950 in store for £1079 which I bought yesterday but going to return it found the 65 incher at a good price.

Can somebody else shine a torch at there GZ in the dark and see if they have the same small dots?

You won't regret getting the 65inch I've had one for 10 months now and absolutely love it

Not new to 65. Ex owner of LG 65C8 and 65DX902. :) Fingers crossed that the telly is free of basic issues.

Did you check to see if the bubbles were the screen protector that is often not spotted when unboxing? Mine didn't have the film on the screen which a fair few others have also stated, but many others did have the film and some did not notice it until it was mentioned in this thread.

Mark.

I have had my 65GZ950 for 4 weeks now and up to 430hrs, I did look initially to see if there was a screen protector on but could not see one. However after seeing the post on the specs on screen I just looked at mine again with a torch shinning on a black screen and see the specs as per earlier picture.

So having another close look at the corner of the screen and trying to get a fingernail in the corner there may be something there to peel off but not 100% sure. You would think they would have a slight flap at an edge so you could get a grip to peel it off.

I have not gone any further yet perhaps someone could provide info on how they got theirs off.

Once you can get it to start to peel off, does it come off in one piece and how much effort to get it off does it need a strong pull or what, I don't want to damage anything, once it's off is there any sticky residue left behind and does it need a wipe with anything.

Does it harm the set if it has been left on like mine for 400hrs?.

Cheers

Most recent ones have come with the protection film. It should have two yellow pull tabs but these can fall off during unboxing (one of mine did). There should also be a pink A4 advisory sheet in the box.

Without the tabs it is really hard to see and start a pull. But it comes off cleanly in a single piece. Some pics here:
