Samsung 2020 QLED Series TV Motion/Judder/Stutter/Frame Rate (Firmware Bug/Glitch)

Now that the Movie-Natural-Movie picture mode automation seems to have sorted it on my 49Q80T I'm a bit worried about the next firmware update. What if that breaks the above workaround but doesn't fix the main fault issue either?! I think I might disable the auto software update for now until get reports about next firmware (whenever that might arrive).

I even convinced the better half we should spend this much on a TV in the first place. She's the type of that can't see the difference between SD and HD but notices the skipping. I now have to listen to "what was the matter with the £400 one I picked?" Truth be told, probably nothing. My £250 LG in the bedroom is less annoying.

Game mode isn’t that bad if you get the picture setting set up correctly, abit more blooming but small price to pay for removing the stutter. Still not a fix but makes the TV watchable.
The trick I have found to game mode getting the best picture on my Q90t is to make sure you have Game motion plus ON but both set to 0, this will initially cause the horrible stutter but then with a combination of turning game mode on and off and restarting the TV the issue then goes away providing you don’t mess with the GMP settings again. Having GMP on but at 0 does make a difference as it changes the PWM of the backlight (you can see this yourself with slow motion on your phone)
I’ve switched to Game mode but I don’t seem to be able to find GMP. On my Q85T some options are greyed out like picture clarity.

Don’t worry I have tested on 1402 and still works!

Yeah, I’ve found it. 👍🏻 I’ve left it on but put @ 0-0
Did you adjust the Dynamic Black Equalizer?

Yes needs to be at 0 or looks terrible. Also have the contrast enhancer and local dimming both set to high as I found this looked the best.

Received my Q90T this morning. So far so good! Its a fantastic TV, amazing colors and black levels are great. I haven't experienced any juddering so far. Coming from a Q60R its a night and day difference.

Got to be a software issue as this setting Seems to work. What number do you set sharpness?

Try watching pointless or bargain hunt as these tend to show the problem the most.

OK.. I have noticed a very slight judder/snap watching pointless. I did notice this via the HD channel and not noticed on non HD channel. I am watching it through SKY.

I've been tinkering this week with game mode and I've been pleasently suprised by it. I've got settings that I'm happy with. Game motion plus does bring the stuttering issue back and by default this is set to on, so turn this off.
Yeah, we did this last night (to make Strictly watchable) and I am also surprised. So far, the assessment is that if it was stuck in this mode forever it would not really be that much of a disappointment.

We're going to give it a few more days and talk it over, but it's probably good enough to make the hassle of returning it too much to be bothered with, even though that little guilt at letting them 'get away with it' will forever nag at me if they never fix it.

We did the same, to me that’s why places like these are great. Without this thread & finding out about GM & the settings to put it in are priceless. 👍🏻

I noticed with game mode though that colour is off a bit. When you turn on GMP even just by 1 point on blur or judder, the colour comes back. However, so does the stutter. Any idea why colour is a little washed out in normal GM?

Game mode off without GMP is disabling a chunk of the image processing chain (tone mapping, colourspace correction, compression deblocking, sharpening, that sort of thing) and the problem is buried somewhere in that.

GMP is re-enabling a portion of it, possibly all of it in a low-latency mode, and so the problem returns.

I would imagine if you measured the achieved colourspace with game mode on it's not what it should be. But honestly, hardly anyone who doesn't need a calibrated screen for work will notice that.

I came to the same conclusion however if they don’t fix my next TV won’t be a Samsung one!

You pay for the colour on this tv .and we have to comprise to watch it 😩😩😩.better than nothing though.had 2 more emails saying they have tried to contact me twice after the other 2 times.no missed calls at all.also put my number on each time 🤬🤬.there full of s..t!

While we wait for Samsung to fix I thought this maybe helpful attached are what I found after a lot of messing around and research (colour setting from rtings) as the best game mode setting for normal TV watching. NB this is for a Q90t bit should be a good start for others (apart from colour settings)
