Dear All,

I need some help in setting up my Home Theater + PC + Smart TV

Below are the details of the devices
AVR - Denon AVR 1912 (8 years old and does not support 4K)
TV - 75 Inch Samsung Smart TV (Supports 4k)
PC - Have a GeForce card which has 2 HDMI out and both support 4K

Now the issue is that as my AVR does not support 4k - So I have to connect HDMI from PC to TV directly.

For Audio I have 3 options
Option 1 - Optical (SPDIF) from TV to AVR:
Issue is that I will not get 5.1 output from TV to AVR

Option 2 - HDMI ARC from TV to AVR:
Issue is that I will not get 5.1 output from TV to AVR

Option 3 - Second HDMI from PC to AVR to just transfer audio:
Issue is that in this case my graphic card starts treating AVR like a second/extended display creating issues

Is there any other way to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Both ARC and optical carry 5.1. So should not be a problem.
Or a HDMI splitter 1 in 2 out would work.

In my Samsung TV - expert sound options, I can see

HDMI input options - Bitstream & PCM.
HDMI output option - PCM, Dolby (Grayed out/disabled), Dolby+ (Grayed out/disabled)

When I play for a 5.1 file from PC to TV - the sound that i get from AVR is coming as 3.1 - don't know why

Members are asked not to cross post. The answer you'd get here shouldn't differ to where you originally asked the same question:

I understand - just wasnt 100% sure which is the right place to post. You may close/lock this thread.

This thread would have been okay and more appropriate had you posted it first. The topic you introduced your question in isn't strictly speaking a topic that covers your question. I'd tend to suggest a mod redirects responses to your original question to this thread and remove the other post you made in the original thread.

I'll post my response made there here:

I have a similar issue - posting here if anyone can help

ARC and optical will both convey 5.1 SD encoded formats. What it cannot convey is HD formats or formats consisting of more than 6 channels of audio. There's nothing preventing you from passing through SD 5.1 audio via ARC or S/PDIF optical.

Your last option would be the best one if wanting to access HD encoded formats such as DTS-HD Master Audio or Dolby TrueHD. You'd simply need to configure the graphics card to use one HDMI output for just video while the other is being used for just the audio.

The only other option would be to use an external audio extractor such as the HDFury AVR Key:

This isn't a cheap option though.

Do you have any of the streaming services? Can you play say a Netflix stream in 5.1?.
ARC is very flakey at best if it was me I would be looking at digital optical.

I assume that you have ARC enabled in TV and amp?
Check in your pc sound settings that multi channel is active.

@soodgautam Your two threads have been merged here. Cross posting is a pointless exercise as it just get confussing.
