Well as the Storm ISP 16 Mk2 is on order and expected to arrive in a few weeks time, I thought I’d start an owners thread for anyone who has a Storm product whether it be Mk1 or Mk2. To kick things off here is a PDF showing the features of the new Mk2 model range.

You look lonely Jon! Not many owners on here by the looks of things! :)

I'm interesting in hearing other peoples thoughts as this is on my shortlist.

It’s going to be a quiet thread for sure by comparison Mark. Specially for a small elite group of dedicated enthusiasts 😁😁!

Just looking at those specs, the MK2 has Analogue XLR input - this has just come top of my wish list!

Now...where did I leave that £14k..... :D

I can confirm that the MK1 I tried won out against the competition for me mainly on it’s musicality and user friendliness.

Welcome by the way!

@lexicon I consider myself invited! Thanks :smashin:

On saying that, my chat is usually restricted to 'the Storm is awesome'...

In terms of musicality did you demo it with 2 channel as well? If so, how was it?

Both two channel and multichannel music although my source is limited to a Pioneer LX500 so probably not what you would consider high end hi-fi. It’s the most musical processor I have heard as far as stirring emotion and tension in film tracks. I’m not really one for a colder more neutral sound though. I found the Arcam Class G amps (P49/P349) were a great match in my system for mains using this processor although I will be using the same ATI class D amps (525s) as you for centre, heights and surrounds.

You probably only have £11k left of that anyway now after today’s stock market performance.... :-(

Lol. I feel special! Seriously though, it’s the first amp I have ever owned that all I ever do is turn the volume up and down on, as opposed to constantly fiddling with settings. Occasionally I add 2 to the bass if the movie is a bit light, but that’s it.

I’d be interested to know what codecs you prefer for which source material. I remember that they all sounded really good in their own way. Auro 3D was particularly good for music as I recall.

I use Auro permanently, albeit it switches to Atmos or DTS-X tracks where they exist. What I notice most with the storm is the sense of space with native object based audio tracks. I had Bad Boys 2 on last night for example, and while there was a ton of surround action, it felt 'dense' by comparison. I didn't really notice the difference between Atmos and regular HD sound before the Storm (apart from the overheads obviously), but now I can. Thats not to say regular HD is bad by any means, its just that the sense of air and space that the Storm can deliver with object based audio is excellent. Sounds travel through the room, rather than come from specific places.

Just to add, I only watch movies. No music or concert blu-rays if thats what you mean

That’s really interesting and pretty much exactly how I remember it. Sounds like our tastes are similar; I’m using Revel S16s for centre and front heights and JBL S3900s for mains. I can’t find any details on your JBL PCL600s are they full range?

Looking really forward to its arrival and to trying the updated Auro3D and DLBM. Shouldn’t be long now I am told......

My JBLs are full range indeed. Technically they are all centre speakers, but they fit behind my screen well (and I got them free as a trade), so am happy with them.

I probably should listen to Zimmer, but I have limited time and a big movie backlog, so it probably wouldn’t get much of a chance.

Hopefully it arrives soon! Am excited for you 👍

Hi @lexicon thank you for setting this up. Nothing to report right now, just waiting for the MK2's to land as you know and then it will be all systems go.

Nick

I just installed an AES 32 Channel digital out module in my MK1 ISP 3D.32 that's connected to a QSC Q-Sys core. Was a very easy install. Only need to connect 2 cables. Instructions provided are easy to follow.

Here's a photo of it installed.

Just informed that my Storm Mk2 is ready at last and should be with me by end of this week or beginning of next. First one in UK?

Must be just about the the only item NOT delayed by COVID-19!

Hopefully a good omen.

Nice. Looking forward to it on your behalf

New website launched today - presumably to coincide with release.

IOS app awaits!

Been looking at what’s available in native Auro3D to try. Apparently this is the list.

Also I understand it’s possible to defeat the restrictions placed by Dolby on using the Auromatic upmixer on Dolby tracks by setting the Bluray player to output PCM?

Have ordered Jumanji from Germany which has both Atmos track and native Auro3D as a starter.
