SVS SB-2000 Pro Subwoofer Review & Comments

How does this compare to the SB2000. Would it be worth the upgrading going from the SB2k to the SB2k Pro?

Based on your signature you've got an SB-3000, so I'd say you're good to go.

If you already have the SB-2000, then I can't see any obvious reason to upgrade (although the remote app is probably worth it on its own). However I reviewed the SB-2000 six years ago and haven't heard it since, so it's hard to make a direct comparison.

I’m in a similar boat as @megabit
I have an SB2000 and want to go dual, so not sure if I will buy the outgoing Model which may be reduced and a £100 minidsp 2*4 to calibrate both or go for new spending more and using the Svs app as Yamahas YPAO isn’t doing it for me from a bass management perspective.

Thanks for the review Steve, been eager to read how it performed.

There's a lot of subwoofers in the price point that surely deserved a mention in the comparison? Nothing from Arendal at all, when the new 1961 series and even the Sub1 are cheaper?!

@Steve Withers thanks for the review! Any word on Arendal 1961 1S new model coming to you for test? It would be intresting to hear your thoughts how it would compare to SB2000 Pro as the specs are nearly identical and the size is even slightly smaller with a lower price.

@adam-burnley could wink to ArendalSteve that the company would send 1S for AVF Steve to be reviewed. :)

I haven't heard the 1961, so I can't really comment. The Sub 1 is excellent though, and definitely worth considering.

I'd definitely go the dual route, and given you already have an SB-2000 it makes sense to add a second given the price is likely to drop. Adding a mindsp makes sense as well, especially given you have a Yamaha and as you point out YPAO isn't great at bass management.

@Steve Withers. Hypothetical question, since I won't be buying this But in my room (size 18' x14' x 10'6"), if I had no subwoofer and £900 to spend, would you buy one SVS SB-20000 Pro or two BK Electronics P12-300SB-PR's?

As a fan of dual subs and as a fan of the BK, which is ridiculously good for the money, it's hard to fault the logic of buying two BKs.

As I thought. Thanks, Mr Withers!

Despite the original SVS SB2000 being a few years old now I still think it is a stonking sub so will keep it as don't really need the newer features like the App.

@Dean Mr Withers's post #3 above is indicative of what I think is the general feeling that if you have an SVS subwoofer, then it not worthwhile replacing it for its direct replacement from the newer subwoofers that SVS has released over the last three years. In my case, the PC-4000 subwoofer directly superseded my PC13-Ultra's, and is probably better, but not so much better as to justify the cost of upgrading. (I also can live without the App facilities.)

I have a couple of PB-2000s and love them very, very much. Thanks for the review, Steve. Always interesting to read.

Nice review, I've got a single PB13 ultra in a quite a big room (30ft) and I'd say I'm happy with the PB13. Would 2 sb2000's be a lot better than the one 13?

Better in which way? Not ideal scenario for large room. You need 3-4 SB2000s to even match the PB13U output in deep bass range, you would also lose some tactile sensation "impact" going from vented box to sealed assuming you listen blockbuster movies louder.
If you are happy, but would want the benefits of dual subwoofers then consider adding PC13U / PC4000 if you can`t find/fit another PB13U, the cylinder model will take much less floor space.

I agree although I was tempted to upgrade when the SB2000 Pro was first released. I think the SB3000 would be a better upgrade for me, but to be honest I'm really happy with my SB2000 and I can't see myself getting rid of it.

Hi Steve, if you would like an Arendal Sub1s for review I can put you in touch with Steve...
I've already reviewed the Sub2 and Sub1 as part of the Arendal 1723 and 1723S systems respectively:

Are you going to do a review on the PB2000 pro?, awesome subwoofer!

Steve,

Arendal has new line called 1961 and we meant that you would take the 1961 1S model for review as it´s similar to SB2000 Pro (size and amp & FR specs).

I know about the 1961 line-up, but I'm too busy reviewing other products at the moment. Thanks anyway.

Probably not, but there are a couple of other sub reviews in the pipeline.

Many thanks for excellent review Steve, as usually...just would like to get your quick opinion on how do "traditional" speaker brands´ subs compare to let´s say SVS, JL Audio, REL, BK and other sub specialists. I´m thinking about MA Silver W12, Focal Sub 1000 F, maybe new KEF KF92? Are the sub specialists´ products really noticeably better or can I just stick with larger (and pricier) options from brands like Monitor Audio or KEF and be good to go? I will be in the market for a new 5.1/5.1.2 system for a larger room later this year and I´m still quite hesitant on which way to go regarding the subwoofer. My picks for 5.0 so far are MA Silver, KEF Q or R and Wharfedale EVO4.
