The Apprentice (BBC) new series 5th January 2023

Harrison's 'healthy' chicken curry looks headed towards a delicious car crash. What muppet is going to waste money on a recipe kit of chicken, onion, honey, stock cube, curry powder, tomato puree and yoghurt? So just the chicken, onion and yoghurt are fresh.

And Natrofuel ... sounds like a small utility company.

EDIT1 ... I posted this before the other team's truly terrible presentation, although I did expect 'crusade' to not go down well at all

EDIT2 ... Not sure exactly why this week's loser deserved a with regret from Sugar - did fudge all in 9 weeks

Both teams were unbelievably poor yesterday and again it was a question of who was less crap than the other. Harrison was rubbish as PM Michaela bossed him around and called the shots. Glad Bushra went she was dead wood from the beginning, Joanna is really grating on me as is Elizabeth, Don't know how both the boys have made it this far, both need to go, Jade got on my nerves last episode, Sarah Lynn is the only one with a bit of credibility for me I think it'll be her and Jade or Michaela in the final.

Michaela is like Elizabeth, just a little more smarter about it. Bottom line - she's a gobby northerner. Limited skill set.

Harrison -so his business plan is heathly eating, wow -welcome to the 'future of eating'...clueless!

What was with the costumes? Purely set up to riddicule both teams. Didn't need costumes for that...

Bushra’s business idea would’ve gone down in flames. Maybe good for her as a little niche thing but not what you go on national tv to get major investment from an aristocratic jew! She must’ve known he doesn’t like things he doesn’t understand AND hates when the market is limited by certain factors.

Joanna tops my list of useless beeps who’ve chanced their way into the final 5. Did they say her record is 8 out of 10 wins, the best this series? Impressive, because every victory seems to be despite her hindrance or inactivity.

Looking forward to the interview week, my favourite of all. Watch the blaggers all get exposed for their outrageous lies and impossible projections.
‘Oh so you single handedly transformed the small Bedford hub into a European powerhouse? Well we spoke to the temp agency that posted you there and they said you spent two weeks with them in ‘03 in the photocopier team and you left because you smashed the fax machine in a drunken frenzy’

Could only laugh at Jade's business idea - "a revolutionary website that will help people fulfil their career dreams, however I am going to follow up on my Mickey Mouse broadcast journalism degree while seeking investment in my business"

Although does seem almost all contestants are now just going with the boring as fudge expand my own business / set up my own business in the field where I'm employed, rather than the original business ideas this second Apprentice format was originally about (ripped off from Dragons' Den of course).

Crappy business plan aside, I thought Jade was a bit hard done by there. Sarah and Harrison tossed her under the bus and then hid for the rest of the task.

Or maybe I'm just sad that the eye candy has gone.

Agree on the business plans. Nobody ever has an actual business idea other than just expanding what they are doing already. Last one I can think of was Tom Pellereau and his office chair plan was shelved by Sugar in favour of... Expanding his current business.

Harrison was a obvious choice for Lord Sugar - with the dead wood gone, Harrison was exposed as doing very little constructive.

With 4 already in the interview, it was a tough choice for the final slot with Jade and Sarah. Guess Jade made more or a screw up of the task, so that was the only choice. Shame really, I thought she had potential for the final, and the win.

Hard to call the final 5 without hearing the business plans, or works of fiction.

When Joanna is not pouting or scowling, she easily fills the void.

here's a sneak peek ...
  • James: expand the recruitment firm (similar to 2012 winner Ricky Martin, although he shafted/compensated his old firm, setting up new business with Sugar)
  • Michaela: expand her construction or trade publication business
  • Elizabeth: expand the florist chain
  • Sarah: expand the confectionary business
  • Joanna: set up own digital marketing firm (copying 2014 winner Mark Wright)
:boring: :boring: :boring:

Hoping that none of them are going for recruitment or digital marketing. I can't see Lord Sugar being interested in starting a business that would be competition to one he already has.

The digital market:boring:g business (clickbait/spam****ers), if that's what Joanna's pitching, would indeed be in competition, but the recruitment firm wouldn't, as Ricky Martin specialises in scientific recruitment, while James is in IT recruitment.

Tim Campbell (first winner) now also runs a digital marketing company.

Is Sarah Lynn sweets business to similar to Alana Spencer, which its early days yet but no profit.
Elizabeth could branch out to compete with the likes of Interflora et al. The plumber who won (Jo Valente) did managed to expand his business, so maybe there is scope to expand a florist.

Michaela pulls some class faces :rotfl:

Great interview episode

Terrible decision.

Michaela losing out because of other strong businesses seems crazy, especially when that's to the benefit of James who has shown he'll go behind people's backs (the reason he got himself fired) and lie on his site about accreditation.

Alana is in a spot of bother with the Food Standards Agency at the moment ...
Apprentice winner Alana Spencer's cake company has had to recall almost all of its range because of health risks.

Food Standards Agency investigators said Ridiculously Rich by Alana inaccurately labelled its products.

Some allergens were not listed and others were "not correctly declared", the agency said.

As soon as the interviews ended I said to my wife that James and Joanna were toast. Joanna's plan was piss poor to be honest and James had shown himself to be dishonest, sly and full of crap with his figures. Sarah Lynn wasn't that much better either. How a business that relies largely on online orders can have a barely functional website is beyond me.

Stunned that Michaela didn't get through but loved her line to Sugar as she left about not giving mates rates.

She should have fought her corner better when asked about being split among too many other businesses. I felt she could have done more to convince him that those businesses were stable enough to stand on their own feet.

I think that of the last 3 who were standing, Michaela is the only one who will be able to make her plan work even without Sugar. James is hanging his hopes on having Sugar's name for clout and Sarah Lynn has no balls whatsoever.

but she'll handpick them and tie a ribbon on top

Yep, piling on the added value. Just like Skodas transforming into VWs. At least Alana's business actually makes the cakes. She just needs to prevent the rat poison getting into the mix. Nothing a good quality control manager couldn't fix.

Alana appears was beset by an Apprentice style schoolboy error re labelling, and just on her online products which make up 10% of the business. No problem with the products, just admin. Must have been a Friday afternoon job.
