The Best Movies of 2018 & Comments

I agree with Fallout being number one. As enjoyable as Infinity war was it was just another good "superhero" movie. Fallout for me personally is not only the best in the franchise but one of the best action films in the last 10 years. Its not very often we get an action classic but I feel its on the same level as Mad Max for me as one of the best action movies in a long time.

Pretty decent list. A mix of popular with the art-house of sorts.

I've never heard of "The Old Man and the Gun" or "You were never really there". Along with Phantom Thread they sound very interesting. But then you could add the film Lucky (which I have seen) to that list.

A Quite Place and 3 Billboards were already in my would like to see (at some point) list.
Sicario 2 has (kind of) mixed reviews for characterisation but I need to see Sicario first.

Totally agree with Infinity War and Fallout being among the best releases this year. Deadpool 2 was very funny but I personally would definitely rate Black Panther above it.
BlackKklansman should at least get an honourable mention on this list. I will admit to not seeing this at the Cinema which I now regret.

Just got round to watching Mission Impossible Fallout.

I'm a big Mission Impossible fan, think they're great movies and this was no different. Had a very "classic action" feel. However.... I wouldn't rank it as #1 or anywhere near Skyfall, it's a great action film with some mind-blowing scenes from a stunt perspective but it was very formulaic. Surprised it's #1.

I dont know about Cas, but my 2018 list is massive. BK isn't in my top 10 but its definitely up there. In my top 25 anyway.

You need to get rid of A QUIET PLACEand replace it with Bird Box is brilliant

Bird Box is another Annihilation - over hyped nonsense.

Now I’ve seen Bumblebee and won’t likely be seeing anything else at the cinema this year, I’ll formulate some sort of list.

Good list, I'm not sure personally MI:Fallout was as good as everyone says. I actually preferred Rogue Nation. I found Fallout a little predictable.

I personally don't get this enthusiasm for Mission Impossible. I'm all for action movies, but each new entry into the series is more over the top than the previous one. Similar to the F&F series where critics are like "it keeps getting better", and I'm like WTF are you saying, it keeps getting worse! These movies, for me, are just rollercoaster rides with little to absolutely no realism and sense. I really tried with Fallout, but I was laughing at the movie halfway through as it kept going from one convoluted scene to the next.
There are like 20 action sequences in this movie, and each one of them would be the money shot action sequence in any other movie. Breaks all immersion for me when characters keep going from one impossible situation to the next. Better than any Bond movie? I say it doesn't hold a candle to Casino Royale in terms of style and substance. Rant over.

To not be all negative, Three Billboards was by far my favorite.

^funnily enough I felt the same about Three Billboards, except it was a film that asked you to take it seriously then (particularly towards the end) frequently insulted your intelligence.

Well I can see how someone could take it as such because it is very satirical in a way. But I can't see how I could be immersed in an over-the-top movie like MI:F. But that's just me, I see that a lot of the new praised action movies aren't my cup of cake.

Infinity War, Ready Player One and A Star is Born top my list. MI was good but not great, Venom better than the reviews suggested and then a number of enjoyable movies in between including Black Panther, Deadpool, A Quiet Place.

I haven't seen Bird Box but Annihilation was NOT over hyped. If anything, it was under hyped and will go down as one of the biggest cinematic tragedies in having not have a cinema release.

Not a bad list, but Annihilation is in my top 3 and Leigh Whannel's surprisingly well made Upgrade would make the list too. Then you've got Blackkklansman which was great. I'm still sorting through, but I have to say that this has been one of the strongest years of the 10s. Oh, loved A Quiet Place too. What a great year for genre filmmaking.

It's in the eye of the beholder, I felt Annihilation was a complete waste of my viewing - over hyped recommended pants. I cannot comment on bird box but I did enjoy a quiet place, I watched it at the cinema and was very entertaining.

Don’t you just love these forums :)
Another in the Annihilation was superb camp. Loved the HDR / colour and the audio side of things was superb - big shout out to the crying beasty.

God's Own Country.

Casino is a great film with the best opening ever with the free running etc. But that whole poker scene was excruciating....apart from Eva of course. I was nearly deafened by the clang, CLANG (plot points coming up). Ugh drove me crazy again when I watched it over Christmas. Skyfall was way better imo and that had its “oh come on” moments.

Fallout was superb and my fave of the year. Best film? No that was A Quiet Place but it’s not exactly enjoyable to watch.

Fallout did tie itself in knots a bit but I found that OK. Better that than the CLANG “Look at her putting the envelope in his jacket” moment in MI:2.

I think Casino Royale is an amazing Bond film and Fallout is an amazing MI film. Bond has lost its focus and magic I love so much while MI has refined it. Skyfall and Spectre were awful.

Yes Casino promised so much then did not fulfill, Skyfall killed seeing Bond at the cinema and enjoyed Spectre on first home watch and put the disc in last night but about an hour from the end I got bored which seemed to be going though seen it all before, and thinking I dont like Craig's Bond at all, he probably causes as much collateral deaths as he does killing bad guys.
Rewatching the scene in the helicopter which I mentioned before I noticed this time he even attacks the pilot early doors before he can get away from densely packed crowd below.
two bodys thrown at great high on to the crowds below which would kill anyone they fell on.
