I have just purchased a 2 day ticket for this event / show, since it started many years ago I have missed just 3, I really hope this Year will be will be better than previous years as regards Home cinema,
Yes its nice to see hifi including vinyl records ,but for me I like to see the latest in home cinema.
The brands I have most looked forward to seeing in the past are
pioneer
Yamaha
Denon
Kef
B&W
SVS
Sim2
ivc
Arcam
And even a few years ago Sony were there with a 84" TV and cracking set up, but the last few years i have been these manufactures that showcased their home cinema has gone down the hifi rout .

If this year's Show will be 90%+ hifi it will be my last , Im not saying there's anything wrong with hifi as many are interested in hifi, but I hope there will also be room for us that love Home cinema.
Just wondering if anyone thinks as I do , is the demand for Home cinema on the decline ?? only a few years ago many people were moaning about all the home cinema rooms and not much 2 channel hifi , Now its the other way around.
Surely with a show of this size and scale there is room for both !!

Any views would be appreciated

Just spoken to - Audio T , Kef & B&W , They are concentrating on 2 channel for this years event !! .
Kef explained to me that when they show AV a lot less people are able to go in the the demo room as AV takes up more room , people have to sit near the back of the room don't get the same effect as those sat mid room or at the front .
Also by the time they tell everyone about the technology that's gone in to the manufacturing of the speakers then show 2 or 3 movie clips thats a lot more time !!
However if Sony agrees kef will be showing their R series in the Sony room .
Audio T did admit to me that there will be a lot more hifi than Home cinema at this years show !
So I think I will give this years show a wide birth and save my hard earned money for a few extra films :D
Not sure why they call it sound & vision ?? maybe time for a name change to the Bristol hifi show !! what do you members think ??

have gone 4 or 5 times over the last 7/8 years. definitely a trend towards hifi, i don't mind that really, its about listening to some gear i'd never get to listen to otherwise for me. if you were using it to plan purchases i can see it not being ideal

currently looking at flights as it takes a bit more work for me to get there

Thank you for your reply,
Yes I do agree its nice to see systems you wouldn't usually see, and if you have a list of possible purchases then its a bit of a no Brainer , however for me I have very recently purchased a lot of home cinema Kit and I had a very good deal via my local Richer sounds ! Most of my music is played via bluetooth speakers [apple HomePod x2]which for me is more than acceptable .

Just Noticed on their website they have changed the sound & vision show to Bristol hifi show.
They go on to explain that due to the downward trend from home cinema to 2 channel they feel they should change the name so its not misleading !
Fair comment I think , now there's no doubt what to expect if your thinking of attending this show.

Personally, really looking forward to my now annual pilgrimage to the show. Will be going on the Friday. As I am more interested in the hifi side of things I find it a lovely day out (not at work so that's always going to be a bonus!) and a chance to see and hear stuff that I wouldn't be able to anywhere else. Sure, some of it is exotic and will never factor in any purchasing decisions I make but there's always a stuff that is more realistic. :) This year hoping to see and hear Exposure and maybe the new Quad Artera (probably my favourite exhibit from last year) as starters and then be open to anything new.

I’ll be there but dissapointed the AV showing will be virtually zero. No JVC, no Sim2 and Anthem. Amazing how it’s turned around. How many people will get the chance to see something like a decent home cinema projector and system, I would have thought one or two rooms would be well worth while ? N7, N9, Z1, Sony 870 ?....

I couldn't agree more with you , in years past I loved seeing the AV side of sound & vision , I would spend 2 full days in all the AV rooms and 1 day with the hifi , speakers part of the show.
Just like you very disappointed with the lack of enthusiasm showed from the manufactures for the home cinema fans , How things have changed over a very short few years.

I’m amazed there’s not more interest here. I know this is an av forum, but still, I was searching for and kind of expecting to find a thread with peeps arranging to go and meet up with other members. Have I missed something??

In previous years you would get some talking about what day they are going. I’ve gone most years over the last 15 and more. The trend has been away from the vision part (and surround sound, players etc) towards 2 channel but still keeping in name only as including vision.

At least they’ve come clean about that. Last year for me was the worst ever experience. I’ve had a quality hifi £10k 2 channel system but ditched that and stuck with surround. Defo not going this year. I think they were behind the now defunct Manchester show. Gone are the days of shows at Heathrow and Hammersmith. I’m going to the Gecko event as Rich from Seriously Cinema is handing over some addition MK Sound surround speakers that I’ve ordered smashin’

Nice!

I was thinking about going, just to hear some different setups. I like music as much as av, thought it would be interesting.

Sounds like you don’t rate it, or is that just from an av perspective?

HiFi is ok but just changed my mind on what I wanted. Just watch out for snake oil from some. Some assured advertisers in the past have run their own open days. Like these more as it’s less crowded and people are prepared to talk more than in the crush and rush at Bristol.

I once had a short digital coaxial from Siltec which was £100 so a bargain in comparison. I’m thinking of a well known brand that cannot be named. Other things like unicorn horn infused wooden blocks to suspend your cables across the floor and of course mains power treatments. Heaven knows what your Lecci has picked up on the way across pylons, substations and the like. There might be very small differences with some products but are they really worth it.

Still get upgraditis but nothing like the accute variety I once experienced. After spending a fortune on upgradable product that cost another arm and leg to upgrade I’m learning restraint. Plus I’ve spent on non AV stuff which gives me more pleasure and enjoyment.

If you go with low expectations, it's fine. You might see something of interest you might have missed or never seems close up, like racks. You might here a much better than expected sound in one room and park it in your memory for future reference. You might get to talk to someone interesting about a product you are wanting to understand more about.

However if you go expecting to be blown away by the sound, room after room, you will be disappointed !

Seems that if your looking at AV you might need to work hard to find it as well !

Just checking out the news on the show guide, looks like

Bryston showing off some AV and the new SP4.
A processor from ATI
REL's nw home cinema sub
Emotiva returns

Shame no Anthem, Lyngdorf, JVC, Sim2, Classe, etc. I hadn't appreciated the fact that Arcam are now part of the Harman group who also own Lexicon

Yes I think if I was blown away maybe once, or twice, it would be worth it.

I’ll see how I feel come the weekend. Two ill children this week so not getting much sleep..

I feel a bit disappointed having just read all these comments... .. Whilst sat in Bristol waiting for it to open. Hope it's better when I actually get in.

You’ll have plenty to see and hear. It’s just I’m a bit jaded having attended for so long. One year AVF were there!

I found a few things to look at or should that be listen too or both. Some stuff I wasn't expecting and nice to try out different things. There was a big difference in the same B&W speakers when comparing the surround sound to the Hi Fi demo.

Pmc atmos demo was very good and worth the visit. Atmos music was different too and might be worth looking into

PMC were using 4 wafers. It was very good but so it should be with a 16 channel Bryston processor to boot.

REL, JL Audio and B&W all had fairly decent surround systems. Nothing like the old days though (said through gritted teeth to strains of last of the summer wine). The manufacturers clearly consider AV fans as the poor relations .

@megson, now that’s funny about LOTSW looks like you’re from god’s Own country too :)

Ironic really as for so long HIFI has been the slippers pipe and smoking jacket brigade and at least for Bristol, HiFI is the new black!

Does anyone know the freebie what hifi are offering with subscriptions? The last show they offered chord clearways which made the cost of entry worth it just for that .
