Thanks @Phil Hinton. Great video as always,

I was wondering if the question of whether this could be back ported to older TVs with Dolby Vision been ruled out by anything you’ve heard over there? Ie has there been any talk of a “special” ambient light sensor being required?

Well a light sensor is required in principle - whether that sensor is to DVIQ spec is another thing entirely

Exactly - that’s the question, I’d be surprised if there’s ever been a TV on the market that supports Dolby Vision and doesn’t have an ambient light sensor. There hasn’t been from Sony, LG, nor Panasonic.

so...... according to dolby, generic HDR is worse than the cheapest crap on the shelf. Which leads to a conclusion that TVs before HDR didn't even have the picture.
