As for re-setting VR, there is the option within the control options to assign it to your wheel. No need for any third party software or for leaning over to your keyboard. I sit behind my wheel and have it set perfectly so the in game wheel is lined up EXACTLY with my own..

I still haven't managed to make this work.

In the control assignments settings there seem to be 3 or 4 assignments for 're-centre VR' but none of them appear to work for me.

Any tips?

Edit - should probably add that I have a Thrustmaster T300RS.

You have to keep the button pressed for about 3 or 4 seconds.
Just assign any of them and keep it pressed when you want to re-centre.

I started noticing in ACC that although almost everything was looking pretty impressive, the track looked awful. Too light, with very low texture. Changed almost all settings, no effect. So in the end binned both settings folders and started again.

That fixed it, much better textured track and, I'm pretty sure, improved performance again.

This guy sums it up well - ASW 2.0 has had exactly the same effect for me as it did for him. I have a 980Ti, he has a 1070 something I think. Similar CPUs - from memory I think I have an 8700k.

Now the video stuff is settled I'm getting to just enjoy the game for the first time and there is a huge wow factor there for me. The driving feel, the feedback, the sheer experience of it.

This is now, for me, the best racing game I've ever played.

I'm going to start upping the settings in Elite Dangerous now that ASW 2.0 is out. One MAJOR bugbear of mine, the spinning ship at the first loading screen when you start the game having artifacts, has gone now. That used to REALLY get on my tits.

Did you manage to get it to work ok then?

Oh that's interesting - so have they added support for it? I saw an update for ED go through yesterday.

Yup, it was added right from the start because their engine automatically supplies depth buffer info. That update was in preparation for the quality of life update on the 23rd or 24th I think.

@Thug yes thanks got there in the end!

A couple of things caught me out - first of all having to hold the button for a second or so, the second that it doesn't work in the menus, only when driving. I'm there now!

Thought I'd try and grab a video of how it's looking for me on my old 980Ti.

Just watching the video back in a sunny room made me realise how much I take for granted with VR - how the dark in ACC just works, everything is atmospheric and I can see pretty well.

When I watch it on a monitor afterwards I wonder how I ever saw anything. Also almost none of the atmosphere comes across, the effect of driving under a street lamp / floodlight and it illuminating the car as I pass under it. Wow.

Resetting the VR works fine in the menus for me.
As soon as I fire the game up, the first button I press is the reset VR button.

I keep on meaning to start playing driving games again but - and this may sound strange - I need to go to Halfords first lol

I need to get myself some of those rubber floor mats that you find on the floor of cars to stop my steering wheel stand moving whilst pressing the pedals. :D

I still use a wheelie office chair for racing. Luckily the room is carpeted but still, if I press the brake too hard, I push myself away from the racing rig.

little sale on the Oculus store I see, havent had a chance to pick out anything yet but worth a look.

Does anyone know if the Quest or Oculus itself has or will have a subscription based store similar to Viveport ?

Well the Rift and Go Stores don't have it and we haven't heard anything about it being added in the future so far either.

Oculus Explains Why It Doesn't Think the Time is Right for 'Rift 2' or 'Rift Pro'

:(

No-one is realistically asking for full body tracking. We want more FOV, we want more resolution / less SDE, and we want the exciting opportunities of eye tracking... That is all!

He's only used that as an example I think. The next Oculus PC VR headset will most probably end up with 4K displays, 140 degrees FOV, eye tracking and foveated rendering.

They're probably not going to release the CV2 until they can get the price down under $800. My money would be on it costing $600 in 2022.

In the meantime I'll be happy using either a Valve Index or Rift S for 3 years (depending on the price and GPU needed to run the Valve Index on decent settings).

Can anyone help\suggest anything better than what I have found?
basically I'm looking to get a new PC to use with Index when its out. I think I really need to go with an RTX2080, I was looking at about £1500 on the pc, I have found one (see below) seems to be the best I can find for the price but I wouldnt mind paying a little extra if its really worth spending a bit more ie: better performance rather than it has more multicoloured lights on it! Can anyone offer any advice if the one I have found seems any good or a similar one with RTX2080 for around £1500 maybe up to £1700 if its worth the extra. Thanks in advance. I'd look to bulid but from my searches its not worth the hassle for the very small saving & lack of warranty.

Given we should know the full Index spec in only a couple of days I think I'd hold fire. We don't know you need an RTX 2080. It may be a modest spec and a GTX 1650 will do fine. We don't know.

Of course you can still spend as much money as you want on a PC and no doubt you'll get some good times from an RTX 2080 either in VR or on a high res, high refresh monitor. I'm not usually one to suggest a modest PC.

Would be very confident a PC you order on Wednesday will arrive before a Valve Index you order on Wednesday.

Hi Nivek TT,

I wont be buying it just yet but I'm getting ready. The reason I've gone RTX2080 was due to that leak which suggested they will be saying GTX2070 recommended for it, so to slightly future prove I was looking at the 2080. Not been a PC gamer before so I'm not that versed in all the different specs etc & some seem like ya paying for things that dont improve the performance but rather the 'cool look' I'd rather have a plain black box that is better than a starship that isnt. I dont really want to go too much above £1500 as I'm thinking the Index is going to be more than some have suggested. I dont think you'll be getting change out of £1000, but having said that if they somehow make it cheaper I can go higher with the pc which would be great.

£1500 including the cost of the HMD? if so then the RiftS will be your only option imo.

i would also consider building my own.... its not much cheaper but you can cherry pick the parts. i do not have the time to find specific bits but overclockers and scan usually do decent bundles so you know all the bits will work well together. bang for buck you will be looking at AMD for the processor.

Hi,

No I meant £1500 on pc alone. I would go AMD but I remember hearing that Intel was much better for VR (dont know why just heard it in a youtube video from someone who knows more than I do) When I've priced up all the parts in some of these pre-built systems they come out at roughly the same & like I say you get a warranty on it all when pre-built, just doesnt seem worth the very small saving & as far as cherry picking your parts you can pretty much do that when you buy them as you can select various parts in the build so its a bit like you have done it yourself just without the hassle.

I've put out a call to arms on the ACC thread in the gaming forum but thought I might as well mention it here.

ACC has potentially very clever safety ratings that rate each driver according to how much crashing they do.

I think that's a very powerful feature as you can configure a server to have whatever minimum safety requirement you want.

I think this is an opportunity to build a community of safe, considerate racers around a server that we can control, configure and manage.

If we can get over 5 regulars on there, that'll encourage others to join (it won't be secured with a password) but the game safety measures mean it'll only let people who have a safety rating that we set to join.

This is already a great game, I've been blown away by it the last couple of weeks.

But with a safe server that we can join and race cleanly on without all the silliness, i think it'll be a whole new level of racing.

Let me know if you're interested. Headset or not.
