Hey guys,

I am now a seasoned travel photographer, and I have recently invested in a brand new Nikon Reflex D5300. I am still a student, so I can't afford to replace my equipment in case a misfortune should happen...

That's why I'd like to get an insurance plan to cover my Reflex and make sure nothing won't happen to me. I've came across some comparison platforms such as HelloSafe or Quote Zone, but if any of you can help choose a provider, that'd be wonderful!

Thanks in advance guys, take good care!

Although it's clearly worth a lot to you, in the grand scheme of things, it's not a particularly expensive camera, so I wouldn't think a specialist policy would be feasible.

I would think you'r best option (if it's not already) would be to get it covered under your home contents insurance (as you're a student, let's assume it would be your parents' home insurance). It would almost certainly be covered without even needing to be listed as a separate item.

As long as it's covered for accidental damage and outside the home, you should be fine.

If you are a student in accomodation, try Endsleigh insurance. They do gadget insurance and it need not be expensive. I think we pay about £60 per year on top of the standard policy for a £900 laptop.

Don't forget the excess on the policy might be £100 - £150, so you need to ask yourself if it's worth trying to cover the item. Most will only cover equipment up to 3 years old as well.

Photographic insurance is available but is aimed at higher cost items.

Personally unless you have a huge kit if lenses, I really wouldn't bother. Put £5 a week in a piggy bank instead. At the end of the year you will either have enough money to upgrade to a new camera or to cover the cost of any loss.

As above get house/accommodation insurance and make sure you've got "away from home" cover.

Thank you so much guys for your precious help! I've got it very clear now, I'll take my decision soon :)
