Hi all

I’m looking into getting an iPad for general surfing rather than using my phone

it’s either
2018 12.9” iPad Pro (2nd hand)
Brand new iPad Air

I can’t decide!! is there any reasons I shouldn’t buy an older iPad?

Thanks
Leigh

No reason not to buy an older model

There is always a model refresh on the horizon but that does not matter for web browsing. Do have to watch the buying timing for when Apple / electronics retailers are running sales or extended warranty promotions

Put it this way I am still rocking the iPad Air 2, which is a 2014 model

I use it for browsing and YouTube as it is easier than the laptop

The only real issue with the Air 2 is the 2gb ram means sometimes Chrome crashes and needs to restore the last browsing session. So cannot be too greedy with the number of tabs open

All current models available for sale today easily outclasses the Air 2 hardware such are the advances of Apple's chips. For web browsing buy the best deal versus display size versus onboard storage for apps

I think you should go for the older iPad pro. The edge to edge screen is great.

Thanks guys

I was worried about the Apple slowing down devices trick to push you to the new model

is that still a thing?
Also, any battery issues with the 2018 pro’s?

I have 2 of the 2018 A1394 models and don't feel like i need an upgrade. Get a whole day's charge (at least) out of the batteries.

I think the "slowing down OS" issue is more relevant to the iPhone's than the iPad's, i've never had an issue.

I suspect you've got a typo in the model no.

Let the size decide if it’s just those two to choose from.
The missus has a 12.9 but I find it too big for an iPad.
I’m browsing right now on an Air2 - Apple kit lasts ages.
