I hope this in the correct thread and im sure the question has been asked several times

I have a virginmedia 200mb broad band
My pc and 2 tvs are hard wired ethernet cable on speed test on my pc i get between 80 to 90 mb

Im having problem with my wifi signal. According to the virgin technician im gettin over 200mb near my router and havin a large house im gettin less than 5mb around furthest parts of the house

He has suggested powerline or extenders/boosters.

Please can anyone suggest best option how to get 200mb near the router to every wher around the house.
With my basic knowledge i hardwire the first powerline to the router and add adapters around the house??

Or do any of you.professionals have any other ideas to get best signal??

Thanx in advance

Even with Powerline adapters and Wi-Fi extenders you will most likely not get full speed using them, as their performance are affected by different factors.

I don't know why your hard-wired devices aren't getting max speed, as that's the most reliable way to connect to a router. That said, I've got wireless devices in a different room to the router that achieve our max up/down speeds.

Sounds like either the router or the PC only supports Fast Ethernet and not Gigabit ethernet.

If it's the router you will need to replace that as if there's no way to get more than ~90Mbps out of the router other than through short range wi-fi then it's going to be very difficult.

Is running cables around the house practical? That is the best way to go technically and makes future upgrades easier. You can put an access point on the end of them for wi-fi devices.

Shud i be gettin 200mb via ethernet?

Virgin media tell me if other people are usin the net then the speed is divided.
Dont kno if its a load of cobblers

yes you should be getting max speed via ethernet , this may be of interest to you , I was having similar range / speed issues , rang virgin and talked to virgin technical , complete waste of time to be honest , so went through cancellations and they got the broadband specialist to ring me yesterday , he agreed it should be better than it is and they are supplying at no cost to me their power line boosters , ok , so may not make a massive difference but i'm hoping at least to see some improvement , you need to ask for the broadband specialist , that is the key or you will only get technical in India or wherever , there's no racism involved there before anyone starts ......

That is correct, it's called bandwidth contention. It's like a pipe carrying water and N number of people are using it, the amount each gets is proportionate to the pressure flow through that pipe. The pressure would drop when more people are using it. So in your issue, time of day etc affects the number of people using the cable in your area which in turn affects what proportion of the cables capacity you can use.

But I suspect that your issue might not be down to that and is more to do with what @EndlessWaves has stated.

Virgin Media's contention ratio is no longer disclosed, but it used to be declared as 50:1 for domestic customers.
Thus 50 domestic premises are sharing a 200mb connection. IF all use it at the same time at maximum rate then each receive 4mb/s.
