Your last petrol engine?

Agree about the price and the less said about the looks the better, a look I guess only its designer could love.

I just did a quick check about the distance from Exmoor to Bristol - 92 miles each way
So given a 400 mile range, well within a single charge, and if you want to charge, and there are plenty of chargers you could use between Exmoor and Bristol, even if you can't charge at home.

There maybe plenty of charging points but when you have a passenger who you've got to get to an appointment, they're not going to be very happy when you have to stop on route to recharge. I try to get them to their appointment around 20 minutes early but to do a charge I'd have to allow however long the charge would take.

Yes, the distance from Exmoor to Bristol is around 92 miles, but you've forgotten my journey from home to their location and back, around trip of approx 200 miles and not of nice straight flat roads, but very hilly and poor roads. Plus some farm tracks sometimes.

From bitter experience on my scooter, anything other than good flat road/pavements will drop the battery charge quicker than a good run on a nice surface.

So we need to move onto this bad boy then The Nikola Badger, bigger range, more power, more off-road, H2 powered, no worries about EV charging times. Biggest issue, is does it actually exist...

Probably not :rotfl:

If it did what the heck would the price be and would it be available in the UK?

Lets not worry about meer technicalities. Just bask in its glory and think of charging across the moor in that beast.

GM on the other hand have just sunk about $2billion into the company and a week later the company was described as a massive fraud.

Ouch, that must have hurt.

One day maybe it'll suit all drivers, but by then I'll probably be long gone.:(

I think we all accept that in some circumstances an EV doesn't suit. That's why we have an MG EV on the drive and a low slung diesel estate with a range of up to 650miles hidden to one side out of sight behind the hedge

I may be exaggerating a bit: they sit side by side on the drive.

Yes, the ev isn't a one size fits all. As I said, maybe one day.

But this has strayed a bit from the original post.

My current car is a Citroen c4 Spacetourer, 1.2 3 cly turbo. It has certainly impressed me and I know it impresses my passengers when I open the throttle. For a small engine in a big car it goes very well.

Pure petrol & diesel engines cars will stop being sold quicker than you might imagine.

People won't honestly want them.

Look at Norway as an example of how fast the change can happen (new cars), and it is only in the last 12 months that the major manufacturers have really started to push.

Norway has free charging everywhere. Even in the capital, Oslo. And you have to pay tolls on the motorway in Norway, unless you have an EV. Not cheap either (can be as much as £5 per 10km)

if I had to have 1 last petrol car, with money no object, it would have to be a Ford Escort Cosworth

I think if I could I’d get another Mk1 Escort, preferably an Rs1600, but since they’re like hens teeth I could settle for a Mexico. Especially with twin 40’s and a Cherry Bomb (or Janspeed) exhaust!

Might just have to make do with my 4G63 Evo6 though as I doubt I’ll come across a Mexico price that I’m willing to pay.

have just ditched our 3 year old Range Rover Autobiography, lovely place to be but a financial excess in my view.

Back to the trusty 535d BMW for now while I contemplate a Jag iPace or a double cab pick up truck... could they be any more chalk and cheese?!

The clatter from my diesel is very appealing; GMC Sierra 2500HD (and yes, I am in the States). The sound of a Bentley Continental GT3 race car is pretty darn nice as well.

I'll never stop driving ICE vehicles, I don't care what the government weenies have to say. I do feel sorry for my kids however as they could be stuck in an era where the only vehicles are motorized household appliances (EV's) or self-driving Johnny Cabs.

Petrol cars aren't going to disappear in our generation

Norway is a different kettle of fish.

It’s on thing to get a few hundred thousand peeps to change habits/set up the electric infrastructure etc etc. Doing this for 30 odd million though......gonna take years/decade(s) at the current rate.

Electric is just a stop gap to something better anyway (hydrogen etc) so I don’t think we should be going full tilt on the Electric infrastructure anyway.

That’s like saying home cinema is no longer wanted people are watching films on their iPhone a challenge if you want a new petrol engines car in 2030 or you are a manufacturer but not for the enthusiast

Not forgetting Norway has free EV charging in all major cities. Motorways are also heavily tolled, driving an EV exempts you from the tolls

Current petroleum automobile and not likely my last.

Like the look for that M3 Touring, would be even better as an M5 Touring!

UK has free charging in all major cities as well - if you sign up to the correct Energy plans, or the council are providing it. Not quite the same but it is possible, and lets not forget the Superchargers as well.

Motorway tolls agreed.

Last time I checked Manchester City centre had 2 free charging points. I believe it has more but these are located in pay for car parks.

i have never been a power car person, i always view my car as something to go a-b.
chevette 1.3 - rotted away
vauxhall cavalier 1.3 - rotted away
vauxhall belmont 1.6 - power! - sold
ford mondeo 1.6 - rotted away, sold for scrap, went on to be a stock car!
ford focus tdci 1.6 - written off by a lady looking at her phone :( - loved this car
hyundai i30 estate 1.6 diesel - gave to mrs when purchased the below, p/ex her 1.6 2007 astra.

but, i 'treated' myself to a new one 4wks ago, a skoda octavia VRS hot hatch 2ltr 220BHP in white petrol. first 'performance' car i've owned and love it. i tend to keep my cars for a lonnnngggggg time. next will be electric for sure as probably be no petrol/diesels left!

If I could afford it I'd buy an Octavia or fabia estate but realistically id probably buy a small 3-6 year old Japanese car before petrol cars are banned.

If I win the lottery, Id buy a few cars, BMW M2, Range Rover Evoque, Mitsubishi Evo 10, Lupo Gti, Octavia vrs, a Porsche 911, Suzuki ignis, suzuki swift sport, Kodiaq vrs and a few bikes: Yamaha xmax, nmax, honda goldwing, suzuki burgman ( the biggest one), a big trike, suzuki bandit 600 and a Harley.

The V8 in the Jaguar F-Type sounds rather spiffing...

as is that in the Aston Martin Vantage Roadster... decisions, decisions 🤔
