McIntosh MC312: A £10K, 300W Amp Launched
McIntosh's have created a new Amp. The MC312. And there’s' been a number of significant upgrades of technologies used and features.
First this amp is 300W, pretty powerful. But that's not the end of the story. The new model has double the filter capacity of the outgoing model, the MC302. McIntosh claims that this gives the amps a 27% increase in dynamic headroom. This should give a nice increase in performance over it predecessor.

Additionally, various circuit components have been upgraded. The amp’s internal wiring has been upgraded as well.

Everything is housed inside a stainless steel chassis and a glass front panel. McIntosh have, off course, added their trademark blue Wattmeters lighting up the front.

The MC312 uses McIntosh's proprietary Autoformer tech. This is a special transformer designed in-house at McIntosh. The company claims that this technology allows for, almost, all of the amp's power to be delivered to any speaker, regardless of impedance.

With so much power the MC312 needs some pretty efficient cooling and McIntosh has utilized there exclusive Monogrammed Heatsinks for this purpose. The Amp also has an eco-friendly power management system. Direct LED backlighting used, on the front panel, for improved colour accuracy.

The price for the MC312 is £9995. To put it bluntly that's not cheap. However, you definitely get a lot of power for your cash.

McIntosh Laboratory is an American audio manufacturer, based in Binghamton, New York. The company was founded in 1949, so they have a lot of experience in the High end audio market.

However, the company was purchased by Japanese car audio maker Clarion in 1990. In May 2003, McIntosh was sold by Clarion to D&M Holdings, also of Japan. In 2012, Fine Sounds SpA, of Milan Italy, purchased McIntosh. But just two years later, in 2014, the CEO of Fine Sounds Group along with the President of McIntosh Labs led a management buyout of the Fine Sounds Group.

Despite these buyouts and sales the Company has continued to make high end luxury audio equipment to a high quality.
